Hi veggie frens,

I'm from a small country known as Singapore, probably some of you don't even heard about it cos we're just a red dot on the map, that's how small we are

Yesterday, I was thinking just how many vegetarians/vegans out there and it'll be great if I get to know them as friends. So I just type "vegan forum" using google search and whoa! veggieboards.com appeared. That's how I entered here.

Having said that, we do have many vegetarians and vegans in Singapore. I became a vegetarian in 2002 and now learning to be a vegan. It was a gradual learning process for me. Initially, at times I feel frustrated cos couldn't find a vegan stall when I'm starving, or upset when people passed irate remarks at my vegetarian lifestyle.

But I'm proud to say I don't regret it at all, cos I know I made the right choice

Sad to say, I have not been able to convince the rest of my families to go vegetarian yet but I will keep on trying.

Since I'm newbie, if there's any "rules" which I have not followed correctly in this forum, please feel free to enlighten me.

No offence meant, Juno but I'd been to Phil Manila last year, nice place, nice people but not so nice food. When I told our Phil business partners I'm vegetarian, they go wide-eyed and seemed uncomfortable with me dining with them. Other than a spanish restaurant I visited(at least edible), the other eateries were not used to cooking vegetarian meals which could be seen from the end products served to me. It's kinda sad.

I used to have a Phil colleague who commented that Phil people are generally meat-eaters, therefore are not very receptive to vegetarian diets. Is that true?

An aquaintance of mine met a Philippino girl online some years ago. He eventually traveled around the world to meet her. She and her family were all vegetarian (possibly vegan?) because they belonged to the Ananda Marga religion.

No offense taken at all! It's true, a lot of people here aren't very familiar with veg*nism. Filipinos are generally meat-eaters and most Filipino dishes have meat in them. But we do have some veg*n restaurants. I'm hoping that there will be more in the future. I live in Chinatown, and we have 2 veg*n restaurants here, which is great for me. =]

I didn't know that there were Filipinos who followed the Ananda Marga religion. Though I am aware that there are some Seventh-day Adventists here.

When I lived in Taiwan I was on good terms with an Ananda Marga Didi(nun) who was from the Philippines.
