Read the book "Becoming Vegan."
Ask questions here - as many as you need to.
Remember not to expect vegan cheese substitutes to actually taste like cheese, and know that avocado will make a divine substitute for cheese on sandwiches (gives that nice mouth feel.)
Buy a few excellent vegan cookbooks (check Amazon for the highest rated ones, I've found their ratings to be pretty accurate guides most of the time.)
I am a mayo addict, and I would have failed at veganism if not for Vegenaise.
Whole grains, legumes, fruits and veggies - lots.
Flours and sweets - little.
Fats - moderate.
You may stumble around some. Don't be hard on yourself (that can cause frustration and the result can be just throwing in the towel.) It gets much, much easier over time....to the point where you forget how daunting veganism seemed at first.
