I was raised with 'meat for every meal', and live in a house of 'meaties'. Am looking to change. I am in a 'healing' profession, & the older I get, the more my compassion grows for all living things....just don't care to eat them anymore. Have started by planting full garden for veggies, and have 3 issues of Veg.times under my belt. Just not sure how to handle 'criticism' and 'heckling' from others, particularly those I live to prepare their 'meaty' meals, and my veggy's all I can do to get them to choke down salad, or broccoli if lucky. any suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks for being here!

Welcome to VB, Jane!

We have a few posts round here that might be relevant to your questions ...

How do you deal with hostility? or, in a lighter vein, Witty Responses to Stupid Things Omnivores say.

Not sure how to help with your cooking problems, but I'm sure people with more experience will be along later to help you out

Welcome to vb. I live in a house of meat eaters too and while they can be supportive most of the heckling, etc is basically from insecurity and being scared that you might tell them they have to go veggie too. Or even other reasons. All I do is smile, laugh with them when they joke around and continue on my merry way. I bet too if you eat your food and they see it and it looks and smells good and you're enjoying it they'll sneak a bite and you'll convert them on at least that item. Trust me it gets easier at home. It's out in the world we've got it rough.

Thank-you all for the nice welcome!

And thanks Marineluvr, we'll see how it goes...tonight at the dinner table will be my first without the usual meaty suspects on my apprehensive, yet excited at the same time.

see y'all on the boards
