I am new to this site and am not prone to joining these types of forums. Also, I just posted a profile and have not had a chance to explore the site. I was just glad to see there is a network of vegetarians out there sharing information with each other. Keep up the good work!

I have been a vegetarian for 9 years, and just recently became vegan. It was about time. I had long ago given up animal flesh, I guess it was about time to give up animal secretions. Especially after viewing the film "Earthlings" a few times just to remind me that I was being lazy.

Anyway, I am glad you are all strong and sturdy of conviction when it comes to animal welfare. For your infromation, I just stumbled upon a site called something like "International Vegetarian Union" - it listed famous writers, musicians, philosophers, actors, etc. throughout history who are or were vegetarians. Check it out; it can remind you that you are not alone when you feel like everyone else is against your beliefs . . . which seems to be quite often.

Take care and spread the word.

I would welcome dialogue - only, please recognize that my life can get busy and I may not always have the time to respond promptly. Also, I would rather talk philosophically about things than legally - just my preference.

That's okay. I work with attornies. {Estate Planning} I manage a database so they should not have to always pull a file to information. I have minds to pick if I need to. I love to discuss things though. I have been vegetarian for about 16 years and went vegan about 6 months ago. I think vegetarianism has become too easy. Veganism might do that too, but I doubt it.

Anyway, enjoy all the time you get here.... Might be fun!!!

Welcome to VB!

Aww, you remembered! I was about to point that out, but you beat me to it.

Welcome, DB! I hate to talk shop as well, so I generally don't advertise that I'm a lawyer on my profile or anything. I sort of know another vegan lawyer in RL as well. *slaps forehead* I just remembered that. She's one of my dad's former law partners.

Nice to meet you, Tesseract.

I do enjoy being a lawyer, most of the time. What people forget is that being a lawyer is a job like every other job. Even though we truly work hard to represent our clients and help them with their problems for a great number of hours every week, outside of work we lawyers are more than just our profession: we are multi-faceted individuals with passions and beliefs.

Some of us even care about the welfare and survival of animals, a sustainable environment, human equality, &tc.

The world isn't all capitalism/consumerism - that is just an unfortunate human design.

Good luck with the "new and improved Amy" . . . it will be worth it. Vegetarianism will make you more adventurous . . . I guarantee it.

P.S. I just got off the cigarettes November 2004 after at least twenty tries to quit over the years. I did it with a $90.00 trip to a hypnotist! And believe me, I was not a believer in that practice . . . also I do not believe that I was ever really hypnotized (even the hypnotist said I was only slightly under) . . . but I have not smoked since! So be it! Best $90.00 I ever spent. So hang in there!

Dear IAmJen -

Thank you for the welcome.

I got into Castenada back in the late 80's when I was at Boston University. Quite an interesting fellow - and the mystic wisdom of Duan Juan (I believe that was his name) was uplifting back then to me . . . I was truly searching for something to lache onto . . . and it wasn't Western values . . .

Thank you for bringing me back to those days. I discovered in my travels that I found the Native American philosophies and the Chinese Taoist philosophies (both very ancient) to be similar, bordering on identical, in their views that aligning yourself with the universe and nature was the key to a purposeful and fulfilling existence . . . taking only that which you need to survive, and giving back to the world as much as you are able . . .just like the other non-human creatures.

At least, that is what I took away from it all . . . which is one reason why I do not kill or eat other animals: in order for me to survive, it is unnecessary.

Take care.

No - I actually had another one that said "Abolish Alienated Work" in French . . . but it didn't seem to fit with the site. I like yours though.
