Hi,

I am new to the board and would like to introduce myself to all interested parties. My diet is mainly vegetarian but I must admit that occasionally chicken or turkey is consumed for protein value. Sorry, just being honest.

My intention is to become completely veggie. How can I be sure I'm getting

enough protein daily without consuming dairy or bird? I welcome suggestions please! Ciao, Mellodoubt33

Welcome to VB!

You can get protein from beans, mock meats, tofu, etc. You might get more help on this if you post on the General Health board.

Actually almost everything you eat contains protein, and it's almost impossible to eat all your calories without getting all your protein.

Also, animal protein is linked to heart disease, cancer, and other diseases, but as of yet there is no link found for plant protein.

You might find this worth reading:

Welcome.

Don't get too hang up with the protein. You're body really doesn't need all that much. And if you eat a good soy diet and lots of good veggies, you'll be fine.

I used to think I need the meat too, but the taste, smell and texture became a real turnoff after eating mainly vegs, grain, and soy for awhile.

Hi! Try to avoid every bit of meat you can, protein can be found in other places. Don't worry, I was just as confused at first as well.

Ah, the protein thing! There are many sources of protein that you probably already have in your diet (beans, nuts) and if you decide to make the transition from real to fake meats, those also have a good amount of protein. Don't stress over it

Welcome to VB! Don't worry about the protein.. you can get protein from tons of things besides meat. Cutting yourself off totally from chicken can be hard... it was hard for me b/c I used to eat it everyday. Everyone here is really helpful and can give you some great tips.

Welcome to VB and thanks for your honesty.

If you are really wanting to cut out all animal meats from your diet, this is definetly the place to come for support and ideas!

Make sure to ask questions and also, check out the tip of the day thread in the new to vegetarianism section!
