Hey all....I'm Haley and I'm from San Francisco I don't like to label myself (just because I think labels induce guilt and force up to live up to standards that may not be appropriate at any given moment...different discussion though!), but I'm about 99% vegan. I say 99 because I probably eat a few bugs a day and some of my pretty shoes I own are leather :\\....but everything I eat is 100 % vegan. I'm a nutrition major and regularly engage with people about the benefits of a meat free diet. My number one motivation is nutrition followed by the environment and animal "rights". I'm recovering (diagnosed 6 years ago) from Anorexia followed by a bought of bulimia and I credit a ton of exercise and a ton of veggies as helping me get healthy and happy again. About 90 percent of my diet is a vegetable or fruit and I throw in some rice and my REALLY FREAKIN GOOD vegan cookies in every now and then. I like to be upfront and honest and figured I'd introduce myself!!!!!!! Anyone from SF?
I do! I am blessed to have a few teachers that truly are vegan friendly and support the real facts. There are a lot of nutritionists who take funding from outside sources in order to make some cash, and I am fortunate that none of my teachers are included in this bunch. They present unbiased facts and let science speak for itself.
That said, I'm scared of having to weed my way through all the "doctors" and corporate monsters who stand in the way of a plant based whole foods diet.
One of my main focuses is on the weight issue and my goal is to end our phobia of "fat"ness and rid the country of the myths of "obesity" etc. etc. I'm blabbering on, but I'm really passionate! haha
Lofty goals, but I work hard. hehe. You should go into the field! We need more sound advice
