I am so excited to have found this board (although it won't help much with my work productivity.. ) ! I have been a lacto-ovo veg for about 12 years, and am currently making the transition to vegan. This has been a lot more difficult that I thought - No problem giving up milk and dairy directly, but the food additives are tricky! The lifestyle change I think will be ongoing for me as I learn more about how animals are used in different non-food products - I guess old (bad) habits die hard. Also resistance from family, friends, etc., they were OK with the vegetarianism, but as one friend put it 'now you've completely gone over the edge..' So, needless to say I am happy to find such a large support network here, and look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome to VB!

I, too, am gradually converting to veganism and I'm getting a little static from my family, and I'm finding dairy/egg additives tricky. I take it one day at a time.

Hi BlissfullyVeg here are some vegan links you might find helpful--

vegan recipe sites

http://vegweb.com/recipes/ tons of recipes, personal favorite

http://www.peta2.com/stuff/s-recipeold.html recipes from PETA

http://www.peta2.com/college/c-recipes.html "dorm" recipes from PeTA

https://www.veggieboards.com/boards/f...play.php?f=142 the recipes on this site

http://www.fatfree.com a lot of low fat/fat free vegetarian recipes

http://vegan-food.com/ pretty website with vegan recipes

http://www.vegcooking.com/ food/recipe site by PETA

useful veg information

http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/ easy to find foods that are vegan that you wouldn't think are

http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan reasons why people might go veg

http://www.pleasebekind.com/index.html website with a lot of info on vegetarianism in general/what happens to the environment & animals/what you can do to help

http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=100 ways to get nutrients while being vegetarian/vegan

http://www.vegetarianstarterkit.com PETA's free veg starter kit

http://www.peta.org/living/altorders.asp another free kit but for cruelty-free clothing ideas

I deal with similar reactions to excluding stuff like that. My mom thinks it's too "extreme" (I can understand from an omnivore's point of view how they'd see it that way though). I guess they just aren't able to see it from the exploited animals' point of view, maybe then they'd understand...

welcome to VB

Thanks for the great welcome, and thanks spehlbaund for all of the great links! I have to say, even though some family and friends have not been supportive, my husband is very supportive, although he's still an omnivore I took a trip to whole foods this morning and stocked up on some good vegan staples, so I'm gonna get cooking this weekend!

I'll have a look if you'll write more in the nice things or stupid things omnivores say ...

Anyway, a hearty welcome!
