Hello - new vegatarian here
I'm looking for a website that I can post on and gain insight into the community, and help my vegetarian IQ grow.
I struggled for a long time when it came to eating - I mean I was really into fitness, growing up playing sports and such, then as an adult I found myself depressed and I finally figured out it was my food intake.
I was far from unhealthy (a small increase in cholesterol when I was young but nothing to worry about) - I liked going to the gym, and running (and still do). However nothing seemed to make this bit of depression go away.
Until I decided to stop eating meat.
I was always pushed away from fish, because of my allergy to tuna, so I never bothered with fish at all. I also growing up was never into veggies but that has changed (around the beginning of my 20's I started having a craving for something I never had which was the vegetables I never consumed).
Anyway - it's been over a year now (easily) and I've been meat free. I stick to egg whites, and yes I partake in cheese, but other than that it's mainly veggies and whole wheat raps. I do pasta but I choose the ones with veggies in them.
I go no where near any sort of meat sauce, unless it's labeled otherwise and meat free.
Mainly I'm looking to learn new dishes I can serve myself (at least once a week) to gain recipe information for my future.
I hope this is a decent intro, I plan on posting more in the other forums.
Anyway, I hope you all had a great holiday, mine was a 6 veggy baked recipe I found online, and it was really good. Everyone else of course ate turkey and such but I didn't feel left out I felt great continuing my aspirations in staying away from meat.
I also want to add - I hope to really figure out what it means to be a vegetarian, I'm sure I'm lacking in some areas, but I believe I'm come to the right place.
