finally reaching out to interact a bit.

hey everyone! I figured after a while of lurking I would give reaching out a shot. I'm a 26 y.o guy living in PA and I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for about 2 years and a vegan for about a month. I'm reaching out in hopes that i can share some experiences regarding health concerns- mainly chatting about b12 intake, how to/ if i should use macros to track calories, biking, and hopefully all kinds of fun and funky(...literally ! i have been really grooving on fermented foods lately!!) things.

I'm excited about trying to be an active member and hopefully provide some support myself.

lacto-ovo was okay, but socially speaking vegan has been tough! It's surprising when you take away dairy and eggs; social interactions can get pretty tough. Particularly when I know and associate with a lot of people who pride themselves on baking and cooking. At the end of the day I am glad i am finally able to go the extra bit to move away from animal suffering and also making a small attempt to help the environment.

Welcome Veganson! I too was amazed at the change in attitude when people learned I cut out ALL animal products. Vegetarian seems to be so much more socially acceptable than vegan.

What kinds of biking do you do? We have some old threads around here somewhere in regards to cycling.

Thanks, everyone!

I think being vegetarian is more acceptable because it's been around forever. But people also see it as possibly less political. it's easier for someone to dismiss being vegetarian as someone who is doing it specifically for health reasons.

I also think it might mess with people who can't even grasp a zero animal product diet/ lifestyle. Like they might think I eat just weird things or just tofu and other meat subs.

As far as biking - I just sort of got into it. Trails and some road. The season is winding down, but I definitely want to keep going out so I might need to modify the bike a bit.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!
