New to Veggies!

Hi everybody!

I am very new to the vegetarian/vegan life, so new in fact that I have yet to pick up groceries for my new diet.

I was never a fan of meats per say although I did enjoy my burgers and processed sandwich meats.

I have been wanting to do this for awhile - mostly due documentaries that show how the animals are treated.

What finally gave me the push was after I watched Cowspiracy.

Hi Birna,

Mercy For Animals has a free, very nicely-written Vegetarian Starter Guide. The nutrition part of the guide begins on page 7: http://www.mercyforanimals.org/files/VSG.pdf

_________

Specific recommendations for a healthy diet include: eating more fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and grains; cutting down on salt, sugar and fats. It is also advisable to choose unsaturated fats, instead of saturated fats and towards the elimination of trans-fatty acids."

Hi and welcome! Cowspiracy was excellent, wasnt it?

There is so much good information and support here, especially in getting good ideas about meals, money saving, etc ;

It was really good! Although factory farming hurts more because of the animals, it was very educational and of course it helped, to learn the other impacts it was having as I didn't have he slightest clue about it before.

My usual answer: I have never heard a convincing reason to eat meat.

Svidjö
Thorvald Åsvaldsson's eastern neighbour!

I would really like to visit Iceland, I love icelandic, it's so beautiful! Besides I am very fascinated by our viking ancestors and Iceland is the most closest we can come today!
