Cool Hello, I'm new and trying hard

Hello everyone,

I am transitioning to Veganism for 4 main reasons. Not necessarily in this order...
1- Health of my children (they see me eat more fruits and veggies then they will)
2- Health of the planet
3- My own health
4 Compassion for animals

Now I have to learn how to cook healthier. Wish me luck!

hehe good luck! Cooking can be very easy and even fun once you've done it for a while.

Good luck, abondy! A vegan diet is a pretty tasty one when there's a good chef at the helm. I've eaten some of the tastiest stuff I've ever put in my mouth for the last month.

Yes!--although not at first-- at first I choked down undercooked grains, and food just seemed like so much drama!
You'll be surprised at the wealth of foods out there without using animals--and so will those who know you!

Remember, there are as many ways to eat vegan as there are ways to eat as an omni. You can be super health concious, or eat a vegan variety of SAD. Or anywhere in between!

When I was omni I never considered eating bugs even though they're meat. Now I feel that way about animal stuff-it's just not my food.

Alan, I have a blog with a ton of healthy vegan recipes http://blog.eatplant-based.com/

I also have a few friends that are vegan bloggers with lots of recipes too. Believe it or not, most of them are men. Here are a couple of their sites. Chuck with Brand New Vegan http://www.brandnewvegan.com/ and Michael with Klunker's Kitchen http://www.klunkerskitchen.com/

Hopefully, you'll find some great ideas to get you started! Good luck!

Hi Alan,

Mercy For Animals has a free, well-written Vegetarian (vegan) Starter Guide. The nutrition part of the guide starts on page 7, and it has ideas for simple meals:

Specific recommendations for a healthy diet include: eating more fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and grains; cutting down on salt, sugar and fats. It is also advisable to choose unsaturated fats, instead of saturated fats and towards the elimination of trans-fatty acids."
