I have been meat-free since Tuesday and I haven't gotten the shakes yet which must be a good sign. But seriously, my transition began slowly with me first eliminating red meat. I thought it would be awhile until I gave up poultry and fish, but then I read Fast Food Nation and saw the "Meet Your Meat" video. Those both convinced me to give up all meat. I plan on eventually becoming vegan, but I feel I can't jump into everything at once. I'm hooked on Rice Dream, so that's a start.
My choice to become a vegetarian began for health reasons. I had high cholesterol and I was very overweight. On Weight Watchers, red meat wasn't always an optimal choice since it is high in points, so slowly that was eliminated from my diet. I then began to date a vegetarian and we have been to so many different veg*n restaurants that I now understand that there are so many delicious choices out there.
