Hi! I'm Tara, I am very new to this board and to being a vegetarian. A few months back, I tried it out and I pretty much couldn't stick to it. I think what I was missing was a comunity like this, to sort of help me on my path. I have taken the plege to go veg for a month, and it's been wonderful, more so than last time and I just feel better about it than before.

I am in college, and at school it's very difficult to keep a vegetarian lifestyle up, as food choices are limited as it is. I was hoping to find here some good ideas and things I can do to keep this lifestyle going.

I have one question, since I am very new to this, what are the differences between a vegan and a vegetarian?

Welcome Tara. I'll try to help with the definitions:

Lacto-ovo vegetarian -consumes no meat products, but eats eggs and dairy

Lacto vegetarian - consumes no meat products or eggs, but eats dairy

Ovo vegetarian - consumes no meat products or dairy but eats eggs

Vegan - consumes NO animal products, dairy, eggs, or honey. Doesn't wear animal products (leather, silk, wool, etc) *Uses cruelty free and animal product free products (shampoos, nail remover, cleaning products, makeup, etc.)*

Im sure more can add to that. That's just the simple definition of vegan.

*some vegans choose to use the stuff they bought before going vegan, and start buying cruelty free products after its gone, or some get rid of it right away. Its a personal choice*

Hi Tara! We probably have some threads about being veg at school, if you can't find anything with a search just start a thread on it and we'll do what we can to help you out. It's not easy but it's certainly doable. Good luck, it's nice to have you here.
