Vegetarian: One year on...

Hi
I turned vegetarian about a year ago after eating meat for 32 years.
Hopefully these forums will be a useful resource and I might be able to offer advice to other people thinking of going veggie in future.

Hello, Mr. Falafel.

32 years is quite a while. May I ask why you decided to change?

Hi
I changed for moral and ethical reasons. I found it increasingly difficult to justify the killing of animals for food when it's not nutritionally necessary to consume meat.
One of main barriers for me previously was not wanting to impose extra hassle on my wife who does all the cooking in the house. Initially it was my plan to just abstain from meat when eating out, but eat the same as everyone else for convenience when at home, however she persuaded me that it wouldn't be a problem, so I'm now full time vegetarian (which for me, includes not eating fish).

My usual answer: I have never heard a convincing reason to eat meat.
