Hey everyone!  I'm llama112.  I'm a 23 year old vegetarian but I eat vegan like... 90% of the time.  Too much dairy gives me headaches and makes me sick anyway (I think I've made myself slightly lactose intolerant).

I'm all about animal rights.  Factory farming makes me sick.  I'm very passionate about it and I've actually lost some "friends" because of this.  And I won't talk to a few family members because of this.  I just... care a lot.

The things I care about most are animal rights, music, and equality for gay people.  Literally those things take up the entirety of my life... besides the time I spend working.  Even most of the time I spend with my boyfriend revolves around music/dancing and cooking/eating vegan meals.

I want to know people with similar morals and ethics.  I'm tired of spending time arguing with ignorant people... it is terrible, it makes me sick.  I just don't understand it.  I like to believe in an idealistic world even though it's far from real.  I wish I could change the world but.... I can't.  I wish I could make a difference and do more.  I wish I could be around people with similar values too.

Welcome to VB! hi.gif

This is a great place to get support from like-minded people, it can get very frustrating arguing with meat eaters sometimes so it's nice to have a sanctuary of sorts. smiley.gif

I came to this thread because it has the word "llama" in it.

Welcome! And you're already making a difference by not consuming animals and rarely consuming animal by-products.

Welcome IIama, good to read your thoughts on the matter. Regarding the same, most people over here are as passionate over your views as you are. I am too although it sometimes feels like a helpless/dead end moment when you realise the majority of the people do not remotely understand your views and sometimes even make jokes out of it. This is the reason why we sometimes tend to isolate ourselves. Like @JessAndreia said, we are doing our bit by not consuming animal products, but after awhile it feels like that is not enough.. you begin to wish for everyone to understand/appreciate what you do.

For now all we need is a holistic middleground, for any kind of suffering to decrease. Meat based diets are very unhealthy over time , so a vegetarian/vegan diet infact helps man more than he understands. I've logged in here after awhile and I'm surprised to find that certain other posts are infact diluting the true purpose of this website. This place isn't all about the healthiest diet (which vegan diet infact is) or about tasty recipes or about "trying to understand moralities" or about falling on and off the wagon as far as diets are concerned. It's my view that this place is for vegetarians/vegans to find support and to make the lives of those wanting to convert easier by giving out recipes and encouragement. In the end it's all about making a better world to live in through compassion. Idealism would be great but we're far from it. We can only try to tweak the now (realism) for better.

Hi llama, and welcome!  I't good to meet you. :)

Have you had trouble finding non-dairy options where you live?  I know in some places it can be a bit tricky.

I'm sorry you lost friends, what happened?

Welcome!  I think you'll feel right at home here!  I've only been vegetarian for about 3 months, but I am very pleased to have stumbled upon VeggieBoards.  Although I'm not your generation (I'm old enough to be your mother!), I share many of your beliefs and concerns.  Eating meat has always grossed me out a bit.  The turning point for me was helping my teenager research a paper for school on animal rights.  I had to help her quite a bit with finding cites to use regarding how animals are treated in the food industry.  After a few days of that, I decided that meat no longer had a place in my life.  I stopped it cold turkey.  I still consume dairy products -- skim milk and cage free eggs, some cheeses -- however, I'm eating a lot less of those than I used to.  I'm liberal and very progressive in my views.  I hope you enjoy the support here in the forums!  I'm sure you'll find a lot in common with many of the regular posters!!
