I'm Tanya in real life, from AR (well, not really 'from', but stuck here a while, lol). I'm glad to stumble across such a well populated and active forum! I've been enthusiastic about vegan cooking and food ethics issues for a few years now, and started writing for eatdrinkbetter.com this past January.
I live with a journalist hubby and a lot of 4-legged creatures -- I've fostered and placed 7 puppies and one adult dog so far this year, with several of those going to forever-homes in other states. I'm kinda proud of my stray placement record! And have been considering incorporating a small nonprofit organization, to defray the funding of such activities. If anyone has experience with nonprofit setup issues, please let's talk! Right now I have 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 foster-cat awaiting transport to her permanent home in MD.
I also have a sweet bright son, kicking butt in his sophomore year at college. He's going to Japan for 3 weeks next month, and made the dean's list (again!) this semester. I'm pretty proud o' that boy!
I think of myself as a fairly proficient plant-based cook, and definitely need a 12-step program for cookbook addiction! I eat vegan almost exclusively, but I think there's a place for pet-chicken eggs and local honey within an ethical sustainable-agriculture food paradigm. I'm a big fan of Kathy Freston and Mark Bittman, especially their emphasis on steering the topic of vegan cooking/ eating out of the 'all or nothing' lot. There's a summary of my food-ethics world-view here, if anyone's curious: http://eatdrinkbetter.com/2012/01/13/ecovore/
Anyway! Nice to meet you.
