Hi people,

My name is Amy and I'm new to the board. I have been vegetarian for a little over a year now, but not vegan.

I decided to quit eating meat after falling in love with my two little pugs, Tug and Max. How could I possibly eat meat in front of them! How insensitive! Do we have any pug lovers here? Anyone? Anyone?

Anyway, I'm looking for advice now on how to maintain a vegetarian lifestyle in the long term and also how to get more protein in my diet.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Amy Winkler

Welcome, Amy. Many veg*n foods have more protein than people realize. If you are consuming enough calories and varying your diet, there should be no problem with protein. Beans, soy products, and nuts are higher than most foods and generally as high as flesh. Anyway, there's a lot of information and knowledgeable people here, so enjoy.

Welcome to the VB!

Tofu has a lot of protein; so do veggie 'meats,' beans, nuts, lentils... Find a cookbook with some healthy, quick and easy recipes and you'll find lots of interesting meals with plenty of protein (and other nutrients.) I like "student's vegetarian cookbook."

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! And thanks for the advice.

And to answer your question, misq17, the avatar is indeed a picture of my pugs. They were in my wedding and insisted on getting dressed up for the occasion!

Just don't think I'm one of those people who dresses up their dogs all the time! Just sometimes.

Hi Amy! How lucky you are that you work at home *and* live in Colorado! My hubby & I have been there twice now & loved it immensely both times.

Pugs are so adorable. That's so cool that you had them in your wedding!

Welcome to the boards!
