Hi all, I'm a 22 year old university student from Michigan. I've been married almost three and a half years. I have two golden retrievers and a cat... love them to BITS!

I've been considering becoming a vegetarian for a long time... but I do really love the taste of meat. I come from an Italian family, so meat is sort of our passion.

I watched Meet Your Meat the other day. I bawled through the entire thing. I stopped eating meat all together. It hasn't been too difficult yet, because I'd regularly go a few days without having meat... but I'm worried for the future. I'm definitely sticking to it, though. I think more people need to watch things like that.

Anyway, this looks like a great forum! I look forward to learning from it and interacting with other veggie heads!

Welcome.

8/3/2010 is the last time I consumed meat.
8/4/2010 is when I became a full blown Vegetarian and I couldn't be more proud.

For meat-lovers, that is a tough decision to make. I was there once, too. That's so great for you!

Hello from another Michiganer
Most taste is acquired (except the basics like fat, sugar, salt), so you can learn to love non-meats just as you learned to love meat. Its a big shift if you were raised eating meat and taught to use animal products in everything.
But its also a great opportunity to really look at what you eat, where it comes from, and how you cook.

Welcome!

I had no idea there were so many Michiganders here. Are you all east-siders? I grew up (partly ) in Holland.

Welcome to VB.

My usual answer: I have never heard a convincing reason to eat meat.

Oooh. Ann Arbor = great place to be a veg-head. caseydoll, there's a long time member (don't think she posts much these days) who was from Houghton Lake. So, vegetarians do exist up there!

Ann Arbor is great. I really don't appreciate it enough. I was out at my friend's rented house on Lake Michigan earlier this month and it was much less veg-friendly.

I actually work in Houghton Lake and went to High School there! I've yet to personally meet a vegetarian in this town! lol It's good to know that there is actually someone out there.... I wish I lived in Ann Arbor, I hear it's veg friendly too. Maybe someday!
