I thought I'd introduce myself a little bit. I don't know what anyone else writes on here, but here we go:
My name is Meaghan. I'm going to school in Montreal in an early childhood education program, and the studio I'll be moving into in the fall only has a mini-fridge as a means of refrigeration, and if I've learned anything from the mini-fridge my parents have, their freezers don't really freeze (inhibiting the storage of meat, for which I am thankful, as it gives me the extra push I'll need to eat a vegetarian diet).
I've attempted to make the switch to a vegetarian diet twice now. The first time I did it cold turkey (pardon the pun), and it didn't last very long. So the second time I did some more research, and eased into it a bit slower. My goal was to transition over the next couple of years or so, slowly substituting my meat purchases with meat alternatives. It went okay for a little bit, but my roommate at the time was not a vegetarian, and I got sucked back into meat pretty quickly.
This fall (late August), I will have a new roommate, and I don't know whether she is a veg*n or not. I don't want it to matter this time; I'd like to stay strong and keep up a vegetarian diet. My best friend, who goes to school in Toronto has been a vegetarian for the past two years, and has recently switched to a vegan diet, so I'll have a lot of support from her, but I joined this forum (I was referred from a dreadlocks forum I'm a member of) to get more information, support, and maybe figure out exactly why I want to eat a vegetarian diet anyway, which will really help me stick to it.
