Hello! Im new to Veggieboards, which was recommended by a friend. Ive been vegetarian for over twenty years and my two children have always been, since birth. Im also vegan since besides not consuming anything from animals, I dont use any part of them for any other reason, since there isnt any reason to. Im looking forward to exploring the forums and hearing from any other mums raising their children this way. I dont have much else to add at the moment, so say hello if you like and Ill look forward to meeting like-minded people!
Welcome to the VeggieBoards!
I brought my 14 year old daughter up as a vegetarian since birth and she has now become vegan.
Its good here, loads to read and learn. Hope ya have fun
When I said vegetarian, I meant what some do call vegan.
As far as diet goes, as to me, vegetarian means a diet of only
vegetation... nothing from animals. If you have dairy and eggs,
thats still omnivorous... those things dont come from plants!!
Vegan takes it a step further out of kindness and compassion
for animals, excluding any and all animal products from ones
daily life in their clothing, upholstery, etc. and not using any
toiletries or cleaning products from companies whose labs do
animal testing... which is how we live, in this household. As we
also have a dog and cat, we make up our own natural cleaners,
worried about their (and our) safety, as well as environment.
I had actually started a Yahoo! Group all about green cleaning,
but as there wasnt a lot of interest, I eventually gave it up.
So you see, my children have actually been vegan since birth,
although when talking about diet only I will use either term.
When referring to diet only, the terms vegan and vegetarian
mean the same thing to me.
Congratulations, raising your daughter as you have! Its nice to
hear shes vegan. Im sure my two will keep the values theyve
learnt and embraced all of their lives. They fully understand all
the reasons for our lifestyle... they have always loved animals,
and know that the chickens and cows are seriously harmed and
killed in the egg and dairy industries. They also understand why
using them for such purposes is unethical. They know and
understand that eating or drinking anything that comes from
animals is detrimental to our health... theyve read a lot of info
about it and been taught well, and Im proud of them!!
It does look like a very interesting forum. Im keen to peruse
it all, but being so busy as I am, it will take time to get to it all.
Thanks for the welcome, Sally... nice to meet you!!
