While on holiday recently I was mildly surprised at how much easier it was to be a vegetarian in England & Italy. I hadn't realised how meatcentric NZ is, especially in the rural heartland!
When I became vegetarian several years ago family, ex, friends and strangers revelled in telling me how unhealthy eating a non-meat diet was.
Fortunately a combination of good genes, regular activity and healthy vegetarian diet means that I'm much fitter and more active than people several decades younger. I regularly tramp (hike), road & tour cycle, sea kayak, swim, gym, pilates...
I'm veggie mainly for personal health and environmental reasons.
