Hey! Well I grew up in a veggie household (my parents switched to veggie when I was 11 or so) but was not forced to be veggie. My brother and I did have to cook our own meals if they contained meat though.

Anyways my parents switched for spiritual reasons. I know being veggie is right for me, but have been selfish about it. Over the years i have gone back and forth. 1 year I am veggie all year, next year I am not.

In 1999 my Step dad (who was my father since I was 5) became sick. We did not know what was wrong. He was 70 and we thought it might be age. To make a long story short, he had Mad Cow ( Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease ). He died within 3 months.

It turns out this stays dormit for up to 20 years. He had taught school in England in the 80's. So after 10+ years being a vegitarian he died of Mad Cow. Life is ironic.

So my story continues as my guilt. I continued to eat beef for a while, my guilt building with each bite. No one understands. My husband only eats meat and potatos and bread. Literally. He saw first hand what Mad Cow does but still eats the meat. That is his choice and I accept that, but it does make it hard for me.

I have stopped eating beef the last 2 years. I finally got the strength to not eat what killed my father. For the last year i have stopped eating pork as well.

I love animals. I know they are treated and butched in a poor manner. I think it is gross to eat their flesh. I am finally ready to perminantly make the switch.

I will need alot of help. I am sure i will be posting alot! Thanks for reading my long a$$ story

Hi everybody. I am new too, although I joined a little while ago. I looked around for a while, and decided to finally post 'cause I really like this place, everyone seems really great. I am a new veggie, and have a lot of support from my cute little mommy who was a veggie for 11 years. She keeps me in mind when she buys groceries, cooks separate meals for me (when necessary) and is really supportive-she is starting to convert back to being a veggie too, which is great!

My little bro is eating far less meat too, and other than my older brother teasing me "you are just asking to be made fun of..." the people in my life don't really care.

I feel really good though, and I no longer have to think about "bad things" at dinner time, ya know? Thanks.

Yay! Another veggie among us! Welcome in.

Q: How many poets does it take to change a light bulb? A: 1001...one to change the bulb, 1000 to say it's already been done.

Hi

What happened to your Stepdad is indeed a cruel irony... but it wakes

you up to making the switch sooner to avoid it happening to you!...

I don't mean to scare you of course, but by now you will know all

about Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease I suspect which further prompted

you by already having veggie elders no doubt.... Welcome and veg on!
