So I've been raw/high raw for about a week. Yesterday at my friends we ate a lot of horrible cooked food (vegan chocolate chip cookies, croutons, slice of bread, crackers, frozen sweet potatoe fries in a bag, vegan cheese (but did have a raw vegan mock tuna pate in an Ezekiel wrap.) I felt ok. That night I woke up having to puke. So I puked and a bunch of the sweet potaotes came out. Went back to bed and 10-20 min. later same thing. This cycle went on from 5am to 12 noon. I tried drikning water but I just threw it up. Now I'm trying to drink some kombucha to see if that will do anyting, but t's burning the back of my throat. any ideas?

im sure you will get many well informed responses, but i think any time you change your diet drastically and suddenly, a response like this is understandable. your body was used to foods that are easy to digest, and then you ate a lot of gluten and starches. I bet your body was really confused. I hope you feel better.

if you have a zester, try putting some ginger zest in a cup of decaf herbal tea to ease your stomach pain.

Did you have a fever? I'm wondering if you had the stomach bug that's going around.

Agree with both of the above. Also, try to eat a little bit of banana. The banana will act like over the counter Pepto, but without the additives. Also, even though its not staying down drink plenty of water with a squeeze of half a lemon. You must keep your body hydrated.

When you eat a bunch a processed or cooked foods after being high raw, you body will pretty much reject it. Your body is getting used to the nutritional value of the food you have been eating versus the over cooked foods. Even if you are eating a high raw diet with a little cooked foods your body is adjusting. Plus, not saying anything bad about anybody elses cooking, you know how to cook your foods and what foods you are eating. Most people over cook foods and add in a lot of unnecessary ingredients.

Hope you feel better soon.

( I'm thinkin the chocolate mixed with sweet potatoes may have triggered. Have you been cutting back on starches the past week?)

probably the acidity of the cooked food.

keep your head up and continue on raw. your body is telling you DO NOT EAT ANYTHING right now. listen to it. it knows best. your body heals itself if you let it.

Could be food poisoning. The last time I got it, it was from a raw salad at a restaurant. Maybe the mock tuna? I threw up for 24 hours. I didn't have a fever, just wicked cramps and nausea. No fun. Did anyone else get sick?

My friend didn't get sick so I'm guessing it's not food poisoning. I feel alright now (just tired), so we'll see what happens.

Would my body have a reaction like that to cooked foods really? I mean, it's only been about a week raw!

Yes, I think it's possible and have experienced the negative effects of cooked food. I like how your body has adapted. Now listen to it. Or if you eat cooked foods, don't make it cookies and cheese next time.

Although I must admit it is entirely possible for there to be a causal effect because of the reasons in previous posts, correlation does not imply causation and there's no way to be entirely sure short of repeating the experiment (which is probably not something you're interested in doing at the moment). If you're up for a little science, I'd recommend trying some cooked food again when you feel up to it and seeing if you have a similar response, otherwise get comfortable with ignorance about the causes of your ailments, which could be anything from a stomach bug, to food poisoning of some sort, to radical changes in your diet, to ????

EDIT: Dok, I thought you went raw years ago.

Farm I went raw for three months two years ago but I didn't do it right and didn't have lots of time so I stopped. Now I'm aiming for more simplicity.
