I tried watching 24: Redemtion last night also but I feel asleep. Stupid insomnia kept me awake the night before and I just couldn't stay awake for it.

Let the Right One In

An altogether amazing Swedish film. A lonely, bullied twelve year old boy is befriended by a girl his own age who has just moved in next door to him. Soon after, deaths and violent attacks start piling up and he learns that she's a vampire. Terrific performances by the kids. A masterful new take on the vampire genre that is worth a look if you can find a theater that's playing it.

Went and saw Four Christmases. I thought it was hilarious! Vince Vaughn absolutely cracks me up and him and Reese Whiterspoon worked really well together!

recently saw:

SAW 5: LAAAAAAAAAAAME. it's like they made this movie to explain the previous 4 movies. lame lame lame.

Eagle Eye: GOOD!! the first Shia Labeouf film i could take seriously. towards the end was kinda drawn out, but quickly recovered into a dramatic action scene. and the verrrrry, verrrrrry ending was kinda lame.

Madagascar 2: BEST MOVIE EVER. for sure.

beetfield, I read about that film (I think IS saw something about it first), and it looked wonderful. I'm hoping it comes out on video soon, as I couldn't find any showings in the UK. It played at a festival this past summer, but then..nada.

I finally watched The Happening last night. It wasn't as bad as I expected, despite Marky Mark's acting (or lack thereof).

I still just don't understand WTF happened to M. Night. He had a brilliant start and has steadily gone downhill from there.

I just watched The World's Fastest Indian last night. Awesome flick! Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors, and the story of Burt Munro was wonderfully played. This is one of those true stories that make you feel like anything's still possible in life whatever your age. I cried happy tears at the end. I'm just a big sissy.

Marky Mark's acting was horrible. Totally agree about M.Knight. Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable were good (IMO) but everything else has been total crap.

I didn't like Signs. The Village would have been good if it had been a 30-45 minute long Twilight Zone episode.

I thought Signs was okay, except for the nonsensical water plothole. Good atmosphere and some decent scares though. Your take on The Village is absolutely right on. When I saw the whole Twilight Zone/To Serve Man ending coming from a mile away I just rolled my eyes and thought: 'Oh God, please don't tell me it's going to be that'. And... it was. Very first-year film school. I'm beginning to think Shyamalan just plain got lucky with Sixth Sense.

Another Shyamalan mourner here. I actually rented The Happening, but then we had to take it back to the video store before I'd watched it! I couldn't bear to go and see it in the theatre, after The Village (awful, simply, awful) and Lady in the Water (silly, self-aggrandizing tripe). Yet, I still long for that Sixth Sense experience. I enjoyed Signs, too though.

I'm sure I've posted this before, but Roger Ebert's review of The Village is a classic. Here's a snippet from the end:

Quote:
Eventually the secret of Those, etc., is revealed. To call it an anticlimax would be an insult not only to climaxes but to prefixes. It's a crummy secret, about one step up the ladder of narrative originality from It Was All a Dream. It's so witless, in fact, that when we do discover the secret, we want to rewind the film so we don't know the secret anymore.

And then keep on rewinding, and rewinding, until we're back at the beginning, and can get up from our seats and walk backward out of the theater and go down the up escalator and watch the money spring from the cash register into our pockets.

Ya know, I've seen some really really bad movies over the years. Most of the time, I can walk out of the theater and just shrug it off as 'oh well, it was something to do for two hours'. Lady in the Water is the first film I actually became angry over. Shyamalan, what were you thinking, man??

I loved Signs! I jump every time I see the footage of the bday party. I don't think I saw The Village and I did like The Happening but I'm a pseudo-environmentalist so maybe I just "got it" unlike the normal masses. Lady in the Water makes me angry!

Watched Twilight. I really don't understand the whole craze over the whole thing. It wasn't the worse movie I've ever seen but not something I would want to sit thru again.
