It's been a while since I've really looked forward to a CD but I can't wait to pick this up...

This Pill is going down easier.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the album that catapulted her to stardom and emasculated men everywhere via the hit single "You Oughta Know," Alanis Morissette (news) plans to release an acoustic version of Jagged Little Pill on June 13.

The singer is reuniting in the studio with Glen Ballard, who coproduced and cowrote Jagged Little Pill, for the unplugged version, which will hit stores exactly 10 years to the day the original came out

The new disc will initially only be available in Starbucks' 4,500 stores across North America. Traditional retailers won't be able to sell the CD until July 26.

Hehe, I might just buy it.

I was sort of hoping this thread would be about Dave Coulier... all secrets revealed.

Translation : Her musical career all but defunct and desperate for one more dose of fame Morrisette picks the bones of her own work and dusts off a 10 year old song to recycle into some attention.

Not sure about that..she toured this past year (at least on some dates) with BNL and was pretty well-received. All but defunct..bah.

But she's already done this, hasn't she? I've already heard an acoustic version of "You Oughta Know" (along with many other songs), -it's on her "MTV Unplugged album", released many years ago (I don't remember when, but I bought it in 2000).

She has an Unplugged album out. It has some of the songs from JLP. But it sounds like this will be the same beginning to end and done in a studio.

I liked her two follow-up albums. At least 50% really good each. :P

Not aware of her output after that, and probably won't buy this, since I will have used up my remaining Starbucks Card balance before I get the opportunity!

Oh, I misread what you had posted. I didn't realize that it was the whole album (JLP), not only the single (You Oughta Know) she'd release an acoustic version of.

I don't think JLP emasculated men. She just had a lot of pain and needed to get it out. I think the author of that article is a bit misinformed.

But that's just my opinion.

Starbucks? Starbucks? STARBUCKS?? Oh Alanis...oh honey, why? Why? Why? *shakes head* I'll probably get this but wait until it hits regular stores.

I agree, and Starbucks probably approached her with the proposition.

In any case, I do like that album. My sister was just left by her fiancee with a pregnancy at the time too. I'll have to tell her about it. That album really helped her out at that time.

Didn't Starbucks win a Grammy for the Ray Charles CD they were pushing? (the Duets one)

Their label, Hear Records, which they bought for stuff like this.

I heard Hand In My Pocket on the radio yesterday so I guess they're releasing it as a single. It sounded really good. Can't wait to pick this one up!

This made me chuckle about a university buddy of mine. He grew up with AM (same neighbourhood, same schools). When she went through the Alanis phase, they made fun of her. Then, when she became Alanis Morissette, they still made fun of her. He had dinner with her during Christmas break and she told him that she was angry and oppressed. His reply? You're daddy is a dentist.

Everytime I see her or hear her, I think, "You're daddy is a dentist."

I guess I don't fully understand what "your daddy is a dentist" is supposed to mean, beyond the literal meaning. Does it mean that she was well-off since birth, so has nothing to feel angry and oppressed about? Sort of like, "poor little rich girl"?

Or are dentists supposed to be somewhat sadistic in their personal lives, so their daughters might well legitimately feel angry and oppressed by the way they were treated?

Why release it through Starbucks first? That seems like a lame marketing ploy co-branding your artistic work with a coffee chain?

Weird.

But then I've never really been a fan of hers anyway.

I felt like I was in a Gap ad or something. Like I was the scum of the earth. I didn't like it.
