Jeez louise, this appreciation thread is turning into a bunch of people with hate-ons.

Someone should start a Lady Gaga dissing thread and maybe some of the posts here could be moved there.

One thing I love about Gaga is how much her music gets appropriated by fans:

right, judge the artist by their fans...

i now dislike the cure because all of their fans are suicidal goth cokeheads, i now dislike Tool because their fans are all LSDed out stoners from the deserts of california, etc etc

are you sure the jay - z fans in what, wales? weren't all just a bunch of 35 year old white yuppies who try not to step on each others shoes while they fake crip walk at his show?

those people would certainly seem polite in comparison.

This was in Manchester, the second largest city in the UK, and a very urban city at that.

Calling Lady Gaga an artist is like calling a Big Mac fine dining. She simply regurgitates insipid pop tunes carefully crafted to appeal to 13 year olds a promotes an image carefully crafted to appeal to mass media. She is as artistic as a box of corn flakes.

The other questions probably should go in the other thread. My brother and I have had this discussion. For just vocal ability alone, out of a score of 1-10, what do you give her? I'm just curious.

7-8? You should listen to her solo piano version of Poker Face. I can't link to it right now because I'm at work, but it really showcases her voice.

so you're made uncomfortable by fruit death but not by rape???? weird.

Lol. Well, you're a little snarky over here, aren't you? No, it really did look like she was stomping on his head with a high heel (until the camera flipped) and that kinda makes me nauseaus. I didn't see anything in Gaga's video that really looked like rape to me honestly. I'm pretty sure the idea of the video was to explore like bondage and all that stuff. I thought it was interesting, not horrible. How many people have I noticed that have done that theme since Velvet Underground? But yeah it looked like rough sex, not rape to me. And it's just a video.

No offense Mr Falafel, but dude you're kinda like 45. Just saying. Most guys that are that old don't have the best music taste. Why would I think you wouldn't say the same thing about anything else that wasn't made before 1982 that isn't contemporary?

I think you're missing out on somethin Rainforest. It's not just about vocal talent. In fact, at the end of the day that's a slim bit of it. Most of what gets you seen is sheer audacity. And what people want is something creative, something different, something that breaks the mould. They want beats that they can party to, not sit in a tub and listen to. I mean Andrea Bocelli's got a voice, but that ain't gonna be what I'm listening to driving down the block, or what I'm gonna crank on the stereo when I have friends over. If anything Lady Gaga is smart for making music that's easy to listen to, yeah and even if it's not necessarily a beautiful symphony. It's what we want.

Yeah, what do you mean by "inappropriately"? Do you mean that she shows skin, or that she dresses wacky?

She wears white after labor day.

How will our kids ever learn right from wrong if they are exposed to that?

Go ahead and cling to your stereotypes if it makes you feel better. But last month I saw Biffy Clyro, Dizzee Rascal, Martina and the Diamonds, You Me at Six and other rather contemporary artists and enjoyed them. Heck I've even seen Girls Aloud in concert and they were actually quite entertaining because they aren't trying to be anything other than a pop band.

I find it hilarious how people completely fall for a pre-fabricated image and sound contrived specifically to reach a target demographic. These proper little consumers have no idea they are being manipulated to purchase a product just as effectively as breakfast cereal.

Why not try turning the TV off and listening to some proper music instead of just replaying the same old rubbish that is spoon fed you by corporate music companies?

76% white is a really urban city, good to know, thanks Mr. Falafel, incase I ever wanna go to the UK version of Portland, I'll hit up Manchester! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I had no idea there were other places in the UK with less black people than the ones I'm around now! And, I NEVER KNEW GAGA HAD SUCH A GREAT BARF REFLEX! since she writes her own music and all, who f***ing knew? And damn her for being in charge of her own image, heaven forbid she know how to be her outrageous self and still appeal to to people all over the world!!!! Damn her for designing her own clothes, because that takes NO ARTISTIC TALENT AT ALL.

thank you so much for telling me all of this, i feel so much smarter now! The American Ambassador in a Suit, Mr. Falafel!

Wow, who are these Martina and the Diamonds? Sounds like they are totally barfing up Marina in the Diamonds, but how would I know such things...I am a mindless corporate whore who only has eyes for Gaga.

One of my old flatmates was playing this song pretty much on repeat last summer, it was this video that made me realise I didn't mind:

Not trying to be rude, but are you sure you're not mixing up Lady Gaga with Miley Cyrus?

Ummm... I don't watch TV. In fact, I have like no channels at all and I only have those few cause my boyfriend whined his ass off when I went to disconnect it. Oh, and I don't have radio either. Why don't youget over your stereotypes? And I happen to enjoy all the music I listen to. I didn't realise that there was "proper" and "improper" music but at any rate I'm not in a Victorian etiquette class.

Dude I don't know who any of those people are. But I suppose I must've had my stereotype right, because if you read my post properly I suggested that you'd like contemporary music. Not at all my thing.

Nobody manipulates me Mr Falafel. I think for myself. I don't like everything I hear. I have freedom to choose which songs and artists I enjoy. All I am is confused why there are people out there who feel like they have nothing better to do than hate on people who never did anything to them. They're out there just doing their thing and you, who have never even likely met them, got to start talking s**t about them. Why? You really can't just say, "Well, I see they're very popular, but it's just not my thing?" No, you got to start insisting that everyone is brainwashed that likes them because you're such an elitist who thinks you know better what is good and what isn't and you think it's your place to go insulting other people who have worked hard to get their songs on the radio for no reason other than that you don't fancy them and you are a miserable person.

Yeah, Lady Gaga is probably the only "current" artist that I like. Or one of the very few...

I don't listen to the radio... haven't for years (except for the few times I'm in somebody's car and they have it on). I don't watch music channels on TV and in fact, from September until two weeks ago I didn't have access to a TV so....

Lady GaGa, Madonna, and The Male Gaze.

Go read it. You will love GaGa even more.

The author doesn't understand how much hate there is in this world for Michael Bay.

I have no idea who this Michael is, but she calls him an A-hole. How much more understanding do you want her to have that he's hated?

MOD POST:

thread title... subtle clue... APPRECIATION thread.

please lets not bicker and have little tiffs here. those who don't appreciate lady gaga or her music, clothes, videos, fans, or whatever, are free to post in a more appropriate thread about their veiws on the subject, but this isn't the place to make negative comments. thanks.

also, please lets not get drawn in to any silliness. if you don't like what someone else has to say, ignore them. if their post isn't appropriate, report it. just don't set yourself up for trouble, and don't give them the satisfaction of watching you get wound up.
