Anyone else still pissed off that this series got canceled?

I'm currently watching the entire first (and only) season on DVD and still cannot understand how this wonderful show got canceled. My favorite episode is 'Our Mrs Reynolds' for various reasons. Which episode is your favorite? If you have not yet seen this series you really need to... it's a hoot.

I'm over it.

I didn't get on the Browncoat boat until a few years after it was cancelled. So I was really sad when I was watching the last two episodes because I was growing to love the characters. My favorite is a tie between 'Safe' and 'Out of Gas'.

'Out of Gas' is a wonderful episode because it explores how they all came to be together...

Best series ever.

And now I will go have a stiff drink, because I just realized that Red and I have the same tastes in TV.

Loved it. I'm not sure which episode was my favorite. It didn't get the credit it deserved. Damn Fox cancelling all of Whedon's masterpieces. I will admit that the only thing that I wasn't fond of was the opening theme song.

Have you watched Serenity yet?

It's about time for me to watch Firefly again. I've already gone through it three times.

My daughter almost ended up being named River, but I knew my mom would make hippie jokes forever so...she's Zoë

My favorite episode is tentatively "Jaynestown," for the scenes between Book and River.

I think Whedon's shows suffer from poor marketing. A LOT of people I've spoken with didn't even know Firefly existed until after it had already been canceled. They watched it on DVD and fell in love with it after the fact.

Yeah, great series. As mentioned in another thread recently, I've noticed that it's just the Fox network that constantly airs great new shows, then cancels them prematurely, usually after just one season. I don't know any other network that's produced so many great shows that have been canceled so quickly.

I blame Fox for that.

I love the name Zoe! "Jaynestown" was no doubt one of the best episodes.

I'm still pissed off they canceled the original Star Trek series after only three seasons.

I discovered Firefly around a year and a half ago. I practically wore out the DVDs from the library from renewing them so many times. I got my own copies of the series (and movie) a few months ago. I won't say how many times I've watched each episode.

"Our Mrs. Reynolds" is my favorite, seconded by "Jaynestown."

The part where Saffron puts the moves on Inara was freaking hilarious.

I liked the episode "Shindig". I liked all the period costumes and the sword fight at the end. Plus we get a glimpse into Inara's world and its stark contrast to the hardscrabble lives of the rest of the crew.

I watched them all on DVD last year for the first time. I actually learned about it from reading XKCD comics; he obsesses about the show. If you get a chance to rent the dvds, be sure to watch the bonus material, especially Alan Tudyk's audition tape. It's freaking awesome and totally sneaks up on you.

Oh, Shindig.

Mal: Mercy is a mark of a great man.

Mal: I guess I'm just a good man then.

*stabs again*

Mal: Well, I guess I'm alright.

Firefly was brilliant. I'm sure Fox is regretting cancelling it given how popular it is now. It seems like everyone I meet loves Firefly and Serenity.

I don't really have a favourite episode, I love Jaynestown, Out of Gas, Safe, Shindig.. just all of them.

That was like what happened to me. I hadn't heard of it but my friend lent me the box set saying he thought I would like it and I watched them all back to back and I loved it.

Hahahaha, yeah, I really love that part. My roommate used to own it and we watched the whole series a few times together and then after I moved I had to get my own copy. I love Joss Whedon!

Oh yeah, and for anyone who wants to make their eyes bleed with ridiculousness I found this essay: A Rapists View of the World: Joss Whedon and Firefly

Apparently someone calling their commanding officer in the army 'sir' is sexist and means he's a rapist, and Joss Whedon must rape his wife. This stuff is something else.

Oh my word! Ridiculousness is right! In one of the comments in another rant about Firefly, the blogger writes, "Films like Osama and The Circle show life as being hell for women, right here and now. Women dont really need to imagine a hellish future, we are already living one."

Well, I guess it would be hell if you saw rape, porn, and disrespect everywhere you go... which I thankfully don't. There's surely a whole lot wrong with this world, even the world in which I circulate, but we have seen dramatic improvements, which this blogger would pooh-pooh.

IIRC, the woman got some serious issues with heterosexual relationships.

Here's a satirical take on Firefly and misandry if you want some relief after readng that rubbish.

As a lover of all things creepy and gross I'm going to have to go with Bushwacked! It kills me we barely got any Reaver action before the show got canceled, but the little we got was so good. Zoe's now infamous line about the Reavers still kills me:

Quote:
Simon: I don't understand.
Zoe: You've never heard of Reavers?
Simon: Well, campfire stories of men gone savage on the edge of space, killing and—
Zoe: They're not stories.
Simon: What happens if they board us?
Zoe: If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very very lucky, they'll do it in that order.

Also, Jaynestown, Ariel, Our Mrs. Reynolds... Can't I just say all of them?

What really drives me crazy is that Joss Whedon has a habit of getting off to a slow start with his shows and picking up momentum after a season or two. Any Buffy and Angel fans know this all too well.

And of all the shows he has ever done this one had the strongest first season with the most fleshed out and 'real' feeling characters. And it was just going to get better!

I'm happy we at least got Serenity and all, but it would have been a million times better seeing things play out as they were meant to rather than cramming several seasons worth of reveals and plot twists into a feature length running time.

Soooo true!! Another example is Dollhouse. Although Fox did have total control in the first four episodes but the second season was mind blowing!
