Transition Difficulty? Anyone?

I am really proud of adopting a vegan lifestyle recently. I am 31 days in, going on a lifetime. I am 40 years old and can honestly say I haven't had the healthiest eating patterns my whole life. I have had a very meat, dairy and sugar heavy diet my whole life. Thankfully, I have no medical conditions as a result. Since embarking on this transition, I am so incredibly sluggish, having awful stomach pains... Anyone else have a physical response to their transition? I am eating really well, drinking lots of water and certainly not turning back. Just curious if anyone else had similar experiences.

Welcome to Veggieboards and congratulations on going vegan!

Some people have trouble with the increased fiber in their diets and it can take awhile to adjust for sure, most people find it subsides after a few weeks or months. If you can identify what foods in particular are causing discomfort it might be easier to limit those for awhile. Good luck on your vegan journey!

saying you're eating vegan doesn't say what you're eating, just what you're not eating!
It could be you've upped your fiber intake suddenly and your digestion is adjusting. As for the sluggishness- maybe not enough calories?
One month isn't enough to think about nutritional deficiencies, but you will need to be sure you're eating right.
Try tracking your diet for a while on a site lit cronometer.com, fitday.com, or sparkpeople.com

Have your problems gotten better or worse since you've started?
I felt much better, but I transitioned from vegetarian with dairy, and had always eaten a high fiber diet

Are there foods or drink you're eating now that you didn't before? Maybe non dairy milk? Some have carageneen, which causes digestive problems in some people. Silk stopped using it

I find that I get hungry at night more often, so if I don't fall asleep right away I have to get up and get something to eat which cuts into my sleep time.

For some, just cutting back on fiber helps a lot. Also a probiotic might help with the fiber. Just keep eating at least 2 servings of fruit and lots of water. it should take care of itself. Most people how do have problems find they go away in less than 3 weeks. You've gone over that. How are you now?

Consider eating seaweeds and edible algae like spirulina. Seaweeds have a lot of minerals and are a complete protein.
