Be wary of Mellow Mushroom. Although they have vegan toppings, it's apparently standard to sprinkle the dough with parmesan cheese even when you ask for no cheese on the pizza itself. I was halfway through the first (and only) Mellow Mushroom pizza I ever bought before I figured out that the white stuff on the crust wasn't garlic powder. This was in Athens, GA.

Also, make sure to watch them clean the steam wand. Vegan barista here, even if it looks clean, there's probably milk trapped up in the wand. Opt for an iced latte if it bothers you

There are Internet resources for veganizing El Pollo Loco, so I thought I'd try a build your own bowl. The girl (yes girl, not a grown woman) had an attitude about swapping out the chicken, so I asked for someone else to help me, but even though the man who rang up my order was much more polite, he informed me that while he could swap out chicken for a vegetarian topping, they actually have no button in the system to do this (places like Taco Bell or Chipotle make this a breeze).

So I had to take an annoying amount of time to make my bowl, only to realize it was way overpriced for beans and rice with double guacamole, lettuce, corn and salsas. Seriously once I added tea, it was over 8 bucks, and didn't get any chips included and there's no tofu option.

So my advice would be at El Pollo Loco to stick with the BRC burrito with no cheese, add avacado and salsa. I don't think building a bowl is worth it. I won't do it again.
