I really want to dive right in to becoming vegan. Does anyone have any basic tips or things I need to be careful about? It would be greatly appreciated.

The fewer the ingredients the lower the odds of making a mistake.

Start out avoiding the obvious (e.g., milk, eggs), you can deal with the less obvious later (a bread that happens to contain a small amount of milk).

Good tips: don't stress yourself out trying to work out E-numbers and such. Just focus on steering clear from the obvious animal products, such as egg, milk, gelatine, carmine, whey etc., and then you can concentrate on the E-numbers when you feel you're ready for that. I know I went through a phase where I'd spend hours in the supermarket trying to work out whether the product I wanted was vegan or not...

Easiest and healthiest option is to focus on whole foods. If you base your diet around fresh fruits, veggies, grains, beans etc., you're going to be both healthier and reduce the time you spend shopping :P

Don't feel like you're a "bad vegan" for making a mistake, just take it as a learning opportunity and move on smiley.gif And make sure you daily caloric intake is high enough to not feel dizzy, lightheaded, etc.

"To the beaten pig, I hear your screams; to the scolded chicken, I feel your pain; and to the stunned cow, I see your suffering. It is real to so many of us who value your life on earth as much as our own. We are no more important than you. We are so sorry that humans possess so little mercy for those whom they have the power to abuse. We will do everything we can to end your misery until the day we die. You are not alone."
