as a person w/ type 1 diabetes myself, i am totally sickened and sad about this. I have been to that point of ketoacidosiss several times in my life and its horrible, i cannot imagine a parent just sitting by and watching it happen. its not pretty.
On cnn, the father/ fatherin law of the parents defended them... saying that just 4 days earlier, she had been fine. i find that hard to believe. a build up of ketones and sugar takes time... she would have been very very skinny, losing weight fast, peeing, drinking alot, probably sleeping all the time...most assuredly, not well for a while. again, i cannot believe parents wouldnt have been alarmed at just those signs. and when it got to the point where she couldnt walk, could hardly breathe, was halucinating, throwing up bile... that they wouldnt take her for help is disgusting.
apparently, they thought that sickness occurred b/c you were a sinner. AND they said that they would do the same thing if something like this happened w/ their other children.
they need to be put in jail and those other kids taken away. its just heartbreaking.
i also find it ironic that they carried health insurance and also provided insurance for those that worked for them.
