according to the article, the judge's decision was contrary to German law and the judge was removed from the case. german muslim leaders said the judge didn't even understand what she had cited. therefore, everyone agreed that the judge was wacked.

Prior to this, the judge had had to dive behind her desk, to avoid being shot in her courtroom.. That's bound to "wack" most people.

Of course she never should have been on this case. But, that's a lot of power. making judges fear you. that's pretty scary to me.

Again?

Oh, I see... Published: March 22, 2007. Same old story.

The title of the NYT article was more than misleading, by the way.

Not Germany (the country, or even the German government) cited the koran, but one German judge, or rather a judge at a German court. Not "in rejecting divorce" itself, but in commenting the rejection of an immediate divorce (usu. a 1 year "separation time" is required before a divorce acc. to German law).

The other incident where the judge was almost shot in the courtroom was 10 years earlier and not related to this case, but I agree she should never have been on this case to begin with.

What could be translated as "prophylactic genuflexion" (i. e. being extra-careful to avoid possibly "upsetting" any muslims or their religious feelings), and its dangers was discussed a lot in Germany around the time of this case (not much of a topic at the moment anymore it seems).

So, where does it say that the Islamic prophet muhammad had sex with a nine year old? I'd love to see this statement backed up.

You didn't see the episode of To Catch A Predator with the Prophet Muhammed on it?

Well at least pretty much all of Germany had the sense to say "AW HALE NO" to the judge, otherwise this would actually be unfair.

This was months ago, and I also think that there was a thread about this when it actually happened. Or is this the same thread, that has been revived?
