Most of them would be very similar to the arguments you may have seen for or against human conscousness (at least when comparing animals of similar nervous system and brain). Ultimately unprovable but self evident.

To know what information You're looking for, I'd have to know what definition you're using for "consciousness."

It'd be hard to play with my pets if they were unconscious.. so I'd say I'm for consciousness.

When one of my dogs died, my other one who knew him for years was clearly upset he was not around. When DH comes home from work, my dogs are happy and missed him. I guess you have my answer.

Not sure what you mean here.

All animals are conscious unless unconscious or dead or comatose or hibernating.

Are they self aware?

My dogs definitely have emotions.

I posted a link a few days ago about research into pigs & it would indicate they have aspirations similar to you & I (see: https://www.veggieboards.com/boards/s...ad.php?t=46543)

And they can determine that the aspirations (intentions, precisely) of other pigs are different from their own and make adjustments to behaviour accordingly. Indicative of "higher order" consciousness at least.

Keep on freepin' on
