The cop punched a 17 year old.

(the 19 year old was the jaywalker who didn't have an ID)

The incident occured by a high school. It would have been reasonable to assume the jaywalkers were minors.

So if a 17 year old comes up and kicks you, for example, you'll react differently than if an 18 year old does, or a 30 year old?

I'll just leave my input here. http://jack.is/angry/coppunch.php

ETA: Another thing you all need to understand that most of you seem not to is how force escalation works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_of_force_continuum

In normal law enforcement procedure, force is met not equally, but with the next level of force. In a world of perfectly followed policy, if you shove an officer, he will mace or punch you. If you punch him, he will beat you with his baton. If you come at him with a knife or blunt weapon, he will draw his sidearm. And the Taser fits in there somewhere too. The police are not in an altercation to have a fair fight; they're there to bring the situation under control and do their jobs. Matching force does not accomplish this.

in many circumstances, yes, I would treat them differently... And would be required to do so by law as well.

Uh, I said

Quote:
For self defense to be available as a legal excuse for a normal citizen,

Emphasis added.

and

Quote:
If it wasn't a cop - he'd be arrested for assault and battery.

And i was actually responding to (though I didn't quote it) juls saying:

Quote:
A regular citizen would not have been arrested for the roundhouse punch since the girl repeatedly put her hands on him first.

Which is just not true as I demonstrated.

Sure, cops get away with using violence when ordinary people can't. I never disputed that - as you can see by my premising my statemetns "if it wasn't a cop" and "normal citizens" in my two early posts.

What is wrong and I was pointing out, is the cop-appologist claim that what he did would be legally permissible if he weren't a cop. Thats the line I was replying to.

So I don't know why Juls is smug about it now?

if there's truly no sexism in your analysis, why'd you call the girl "a stupid *****"?

That's something I've always observed in bullies. My brother was like this growing up. If I laughed at him, he slapped me. If I nudged him, he tried to punch me in the gut. If I hit him, he pulled a knife. Now three guesses what he does for a living.

Yet another reason why I think cops are f***ed in their heads.

It is true. If a police officer shows up to a scene and can determine the agressor, they will arrest that person only. (My son recently went through this).

And you haven't demonstrated anything.

Now that sounds like misplaced frustration. I haven't said word one to you in this thread...unless you are talking about my silly remarks earlier which only was designed to bring levity in the discussion. I certainly didn't resort to name-calling.

You're generalizing them all. With what you just stated, i could just as easily guess that he's a football player, mma fighter, in the military, used car salesman, botanist, etc. Apparently people aren't capable of change in your eyes. So, the experiences that a person goes through in their earlier years sets the course for the rest of their lives??

Then again, i think anarchists are pretty silly as well, even though i wouldn't be as disrespectful as saying they're f***ed in their heads.

The Big Bad.

Ps here is YouTube video:

It doesn't look like self-defense and I'm not surprised. The amount of bullets I would pump into their skulls frightens me.
