oh yeah: we should just drop the debt owed to China as they're continually trying to hack us.

I would say I am more of a constitutionalist, and believe that document needs to be brought back into politics and policy..... every politic leaning test I have ever taken says I am a centerist with a slightly right leaning probably because I believe in a strong national defense.

It actually doesn't surprise me that the Enquirer is better at investigative journalism - they're used to digging up dirt on people. Actually, if they wanted to go serious, I think they could probably do it quite efficiently, digging up various kinds of corruption. I see very little in the way of follow up questions/investigation in today's "serious" media. I'll watch an interview on TV, and it's obvious that the interviewer is working from a script, ticking off that he/she got a reply, without listening to whether it was actually an answer, or paying enough attention to the content of a reply to press about it. The most obvious recent example is Stephanapolous(sp?) passing over Giuliani's assertion that there were no terror attacks on U.S. soil during the GWB administration.

What really burns me, journalistic ally speaking, about the coverage of Edwards is that now that books are coming out and various people are saying that he never read newspapers and wasn't well informed about, or even interested in, major issues, all these journalists who covered his campaign are saying, "Yes, we noticed that he never read any newspapers or issue papers, and that he really didn't know anything about X, Y or Z." What the f***?! Don't you think that is something you should have brought up at the time?!?!

I don't disagree at all with what your asking and saying cause there are more than few issues/questions that I am still waiting on the media to follow up.... one of the most recent things that bothers me is right after the closed door deal with the unions was made I saw a clip on CNN where the asked Pelosi about the deal and her response was " the unions are have better represention than the non union citizens".

I really would like clarification on that statement and have even emailed every news org asking why that has not been followed up on..... dont the people we elect to the house and senate represent "we the people" ?

What do you have against South Americans? Central Americans? Or do you just not hug anyone other than your wife?

I am picturing Stanie running down the street with an oversized butterfly net, trying to capture unwilling Americans to hug.

So true. His frothing of love is tiresome at best. I just wish that he'd actually tell us how he truly feels sometimes.

Well, you did say "american." Are you saying that people from the U.S. are the only Americans who count in your eyes?!

So what does american mean to you? Youre the one questioning the word.

I try to be judicious in my use of the word, since I recognize the U.S. isn't the only country on these continents. I slip up from time to time, but I thik it's funny that you, who are so keenly aware of rampant "Americanism", use the word with such regularity to refer only to the U.S. and its denizens.

I have recently tried to say usa instead of america, for the reasons you are stating, but i too catch myself out, through convenience mostly, knowing that most usaians here only view america to be the usa.

I dont think it's that simple. we may call ourselves Americans but in part that's because other populations within the contients of the Americas don't refer to themselves as Americans, and I believe it is actually a hold over from the europeans that first came here.... but back to the point, Mexicans, Canadians, Guatamalians, Colombians, Bolivians, etc.....

what the **** happened to this thread?

i was just coming here to talk about the americans arrested for trafficking when they tried to take 3 dozen (??) children out of haiti without proper identification.

even though they were identified as "missionaries" my first thought was "sex traffickers." how terrible, the people who come in and take advantage of ****ed up ****.

i remember FEMA telling us not to call ANY OTHER NUMBER than the ones provided by them or the red cross, because of the insane amount of rip offs that were happening.

people are *******s.

cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war.

Okay, Haiti is in trouble. Big deal. How am I supposed to buy plasma screen televisions, Rogaine, and Bud if the United States takes away my hard earned welfare check? I need that check too. Done dropped the remote on my foot. How am I supposed to work after that?
