So, I am currently job searching. I need something that pays well and has benefits, but I do not have a degree...although I am working at it. What are the best paying jobs out there for someone without a ton of training?

(I live in Florida, btw.)

You can make a lot of money bartending and stripping, without having a degree.

Also, being a film or television star can be quite lucrative as well.

cleaning rooms at a hotel or hospital (hospital pays more since you have to deal with gross stuff). usually pays pretty good, hours are good and it's usually unionized if that's something you see as a good thing, which also usually means good benefits.

I hear crystal meth dealers are doing quite well in today's economy as well.

Website design, graphics design (for like smaller places, businesses wanting a logo, etc), waitress (can be, depending on multiple factors).

If you are actually 18 (or 21+) bartending, stripping, either in the private or public area (talking the legal things here, not the other ones).

Yeah, I live in rural Washington and live well below the federal poverty guidelines... probably 'cause I don't have a meth lab in my basement!

If you are a naturally good sales person you can make money hand over fist via bonuses and/or commissions in the right industry. I love jobs with commissions myself. Even though I do have various qualifications myself I've ended up in advertising/sales again simply because the money is so good and the work is easy. Uncapped commissions are like God's gift to the silver-tongued and devious ones.

ETA: Picking a good industry and a decent product can be important. It's no use being a sales person at a cheap clothing store or selling shonky hotel packages or time share over the phone. Selling big $$$ items like cars, or advertising space (which is what I currently do), boats and the like. Real estate sales has huge earning potential, too, but often requires certain certificates and/or licenses, which can vary from country to country.

There's a bunch of jobs that pay based on talent rather than pieces of paper or experience. Might help us if you let us know where your talents and interests lie.

You could be a Document Control Coordinator for a large contracting company like myself and get paid the big bucks to randomly post in the slut thread all day. Plus, the benefits ROCK and I always get hooked up with free concert tickets!!!

Don't forget prostitution, that's a way to rake in some bucks.

Seriously, I'm curious about this too, I don't have a degree either but am not ready to turn to drug dealing or sexually exploiting myself.

what i really want is a way to make good money from home. i'm unemployed right now and actually really love not having to get up and go to work every day. partly out of laziness partly just cause i like being here when everyone gets home and never missing out on anything. i've worked retail for years and it's always wierd random hours and i always miss out on stuff cause of work.

i'm fully of the opinion that one should work to live not live to work, and i hate the idea of giving all of my time and energy somewhere else so some corporation can get fatter. if i'm going to use all that time and energy it should be doing something that makes me happy or helps my family somehow.

i'm really hoping that when hubby finishes school and starts teaching he'll be making enough that i can stay home and just supplement our income with something from home. i just haven't figured out how or what yet. still keep considering that online vegan store but i dunno

I second tending bar, or waiting tables in an upscale place. You can get kitchen work, that pays pretty well.

I think working for Fed Ex or UPS does not require a degree. If you can manage getting up early, you can make lots of cash loading the trucks. (if you want to lift stuff)

Administrative assistants at law firms, or engineering firms, that kind of thing...

Check out this site. It lists different career fields and the general expected education level. Some of them are associate and some, IIRC, are none required. It shows all sorts of useful information about each field as well.

An old friend of mine started working for a casino as a cashier for 16$/hr and moved up through management pretty quickly. Now makes $50Kish+/year. But, as with some other of the suggestions, it depends on if you have any moral issues with what you're doing as a vocation as well, and what your vocation is contributing to in society.

Pot dealing in Western Canada. They never bust the small time dealers, just the growers!

Yeah. I was snickering.

But yeah. Totally porn. You probably would have wanted to have had sex first, though So make sure of that, and you're golden!

All kidding aside, sales and waitressing are probably your best bets.. but restaurants where you'll really bring in big bucks don't take people without experience, generally.

I have a friend that did very well as a chef - she got started through a friend and worked her way into nicer restaurants. She had no formal training.

When I used to tutor for test prep, the only qualification was a test score in the 90% percentile. They paid about $20/hr plus prep time and mileage, plus bonuses for good reveiws/problem students. Most people were in college, but one girl passed everything from the MCATs to the LSATS after getting in on her SATs and she had only graduated HS. They really didn't care about level of education as long as your students got good scores. Really if you can teach anything - swimming, dance, academics, you can market that.

My brother is doing great now - he opened up a dog walking service that has expanded into a doggy day care, babysitting and walking service. He specializes in "tough" breeds that other businesses don't want to deal with.

If you can get started and photograph well - my friends who model get about 50/hr - but it's hard to get regular work. If you are willing to pose nude/erotic that helps. It may be less uncomfortable than porn.

Or network like crazy, find a spot where you can talk to lots of people and find out what they all do, and see if you can use their ideas or if they might have a need for you. Some admin positions are pretty good, it helps if you meet someone who can get you in the door.

You may actually get paid a little more for swiping the 'ol V-Card on the register for the first and only time in a porn flick. Bow Chicka Bow Wow!!

Only the sober ones who enjoy high positions in the supply chain.

I'm guessing that top earnings are to be found among "entrepreneurs", along with very low earnings or net losses for most.

Ok, this is a real suggestion : I waited tables part time for a few years and seriously, if you can find the right restaurant, it's extremely lucrative. I worked at a place that had a high turn-over rate with tables, so I could wait on 35 tables in 1 (5 hour) shift. What sucks is it's sometimes hard to get in, usually they make you start as a hostess.

The most I ever made in one shift was $215, that was after tipping the bussers and our shake girl out 25%. It was a hard 8 hour shift, but SOOO worth it. On a normal Saturday, I usually walked with $130 cash in addition to $7.50 an hour. Best job for a student. I'm trying to get back into it, but because it's such a well paying job, it's very hard to find an open job.
