We have Mother's Day. We have Father's Day. All well and good, we should appreciate those who brought us into the world and the care they took of us in our youth. But with the world population the way it is we really should be thanking those who don't contribute to it rather than those who do. (Or as well as, if you wish.

So, I would like to proclaim that today, 1st of May here in Aus, is Non-Breeders Day. I would like to give my warmest appreciation on most heartfelt thanks to all those people who have chosen not to breed.

I love you!

Love the post? Why not buy the T-shirt!

That, in my opinion, is even better! There should be a "Thank you for Adopting Day" too

Happy Non-Breeding day!!!

I don't want chocolate or roses or offspring either.

If someone wants to make a yummy falafel dinner, that'd be ok though.

Happy no kiddies day to you too Kiz

It's great that we now have our own day to celebrate, but I guess I've been celebrating pretty much everyday since my teens which is when I first realized that I didn't want any bubs.

Um, hrm. I don't really like holidays, but maybe I'll celebrate this one. It depends...

What sort of things, besides safe sex, would one do on Non-breeders Day?

Do everything you pretty much have to stop doing once you have kids (and they're old enough to see what you're doing).

My Non-Breeder's Day Plans:

Drinking

Smoking

Porno

'special toys'

Walking around naked

Laying around naked

And, if my BF were around, I'd throw in random spontaneous sex.

mistakes happen for sure, but people who are convinced they dont want kids tend to plan ahead for random sex so they dont have those mistakes. otherwise id probably have several kids of my own by now.

Non-Breeders' Day in Australia happens to coincide with Labor Day in Bolivia, although a more direct translation would be "Workers' Day."

I expect to get quizzed by a single mom on Thursday evening about why I don't want biological kids. I think it would be a bit rude of me to say, "Because I don't want your life." There's more to it than just that, of course.

Q: How many poets does it take to change a light bulb? A: 1001...one to change the bulb, 1000 to say it's already been done.

Hmmm...I think that's going to be my new response when people are SHOCKED that I'm not living for the opportunity to squirt out a human larva.

But then...I don't have anything good to say back to "What's wrong with my life???"

Well, they are rude to you first! Although, "I just don't want children. Why don't we leave it there?" is not at all rude.

Love the post? Why not buy the T-shirt!

Me too.

You don't get to your thirties and still have no kids just through sheer luck.

I decided, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, that the world was too dangerous a place to bring children into, but, as I'm such a lovely person, I thought that it would be criminal not to pass my genes on. I now have two 30+ year old, veg. from birth, brilliant kids, and have never regretted it.

Nice idea, except that by using 'breeding' in connection with humans you're trying to sell two ideas unpalatable to many people: 1) humans should limit their reproduction as a gift to future generations, and 2) humans are animals.

It might be best to fight these two battles separately. I don't have any immediate suggestions regarding your terminology.

1) Overpopulation is bad.

2) Yes, we are.
