Washoe, I love that avatar! Loved the movie too.

Anyways, I want to donate my orgins and I want to be cremated. I don't want to be buried in a box. I want my ashes spread on the beach somewhere (I love the beach ).

I'd kinda like to end up like this guy just for the hell of it, but seeing as there aren't any openings for new Pharaoh's then I'll probably go with something more mundane. Actually, from my point of view it's totally irrelevant what happens to my lifeless corpse, but if its something at least a little bit useful like donating it to scientific research then I'd prefer my next of kin go for that.

I am scared of both options. For myself not so much as I won't be around to worry, but for other people and my pets. I hate the thought of burying them and having their body slowly rot away, or in the case of my pets perhaps even dug up. But I also hate the thought of "destroying" their body by cremation.

It's actually something that worries me a lot as at some point I will lose one of my pets and the options terrify me

I'm scared of all options also. I've seen way too many horror movies where people are "presumed" dead and are buried or burned alive.

My grandparents were both cremated and I spread their ashes a couple years ago. Honestly it traumatized me. I had never seen cremated bodies before and I assumed the ashes would be just like the movies........soooo not the case. I know its what they wanted and I don't regret doing it but I just wish I was prepared and knew what to expect before opening up the urns.

Now you've got me all worried about this cremation thing. I know I will be dead and not likely to care at that point but still

I have heard that rather than fine dust there are bits and bobs left there, a little too recognisable :/

Exactly. Bits and bobs = bones. I thought the ashes would be "lighter" also like cigarette ashes but instead they are pretty heavy.

Yeah it is a lot heavier than you'd think.

Oh, and for people worried about stories of being buried alive -- can't happen anymore. The embalming fluid is designed to kill you (so if you were alive, you'd be "killed"). No more buried alive. Although being burned alive.... that'd be bad so I hope they embalm you first for that too.

I want to be cremated. Being buried, decaying, and eaten by worms isn't too appealing. But I want to get my organs out and donated first. And I want my ashes to be sprinkled into the ocean. You can do that, right? I just want to be, like, "one with nature" or however the saying goes :b

ETA: Somehow I feel like it would release my spirit this way. It's kind of morbid though...I wonder if there's some other way.

My father, brother and I scattered my mother's ashes - 3 days? after she died... it was a strange thing, but it was actually really nice. It really allowed us to feel her again, and be with her in some strange way. I had expected it to be morbid and sad, but it wasn't at all. It was really beautiful. We had never seen ashes before, so didn't know what to expect, so we actually used our hands, taking small handfuls and spreading them in the woods and in a stream. We even had a fair laugh about how when we dropped the ashes in the water they didn't float away nicely but sank immediately - just imagining her there, telling us we were doing it wrong and laughing with us - it cracked us up.

As for me - I agree with wanting to have whatever usable body parts I have donated, whether to science or people, I don't care. But bodies are valuable and important, and I won't want to waste that.

Actually, ash spreading is illegal, I think. *shrug*

They were quite heavy - but there weren't really 'bits and bobs' - just some lighter flecks.

I want my organs to be donated to those in need if they're of any good, but I didn't sign the back of my license; I don't want them to have all of my body. Instead I want that to just be tossed in a forest and animals can eat it or it can rot into the ground or something. I'm serious.

if there's a use for me (organs, science, etc) I want to go to that.

Else, I won't care, short of getting my own Viking Sea Burial or a Pyramid. I think either of those options are unlikely, so ... my friends/family can decide.

That's only if you are buried legally!

I want to be burried with a rope leading up to a bell on the surface so that if I wake up I can ring the bell and someone will come dig me up.

My initial plan was a mobile phone but it could run out of battery and probably wouldn't have signal so a bell on a rope is a good plan.

ETA: Just remembered I've told the NHS they can have my organs so that would make sure I was dead if my organs were gone.

Yes, but they'll only take your organs in very specific circumstances as they have to be very very fresh when transplanted ... so it's pretty unlikely most donors will actually have their organs taken.

So I'll keep my bell on a rope in mind then.

I'd say burned to cinders by a machine is fairly unnatural though. Why not just have your body dropped off somewhere?

The fun thing about that is, if someone finds it and calls the police they'll start an investigation and that'll come back to how you died which had nothing to do with you being there!

Although I think it is illegal to leave a body in the wild, so make sure whoever does it for you is careful!
