I found my first grey hair today!

I'm only 27! I'm not supposed to have grey hairs yet. My mum has none and she's 51, dammit.

I'm suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to dye my hair blue and get something pierced. I may have to listen to large amounts of heavy metal music this weekend too.

To make things worse, my co-worker introduced me to her son as "Mrs ___ " I felt like his schoolteacher.

Getting old sucks. I wanna stay young for ever.

I'm 32 and I don't have greys yet.

However, I won't discourage you from listening to metal or dying your hair blue. If you needed an excuse, now you have one.

I still don't like being called 'Sir' or 'Mr. __". I generally always think that "Mr. __" is my dad.

Young is a state of mind. I think that being "old" is a choice you make, or something you accept. As for me, I'll keep buying toys, jumping my bike off of curbs and loving cartoons.

My gray started coming in when I was 27. It was a long time before I finally decided to start having it colored, but I'm glad I have it done. Maybe you are only as old as you feel, but when I look in the mirror, it does make me feel at least a little younger.

Sounds cool. Go fer it. Why not? You only live once.

True story: When I was 33, I accompanied my sister and her kids to an all-day athletic competition at my niece's school - my niece was five at the time. At one point during the day my sister introduced me to the actress Mary McDonnell (her daughter Olivia was friends with my niece), and Mary laughed and said "Oh, I was wondering who that woman was walking around with you guys!" Because until that point I'd never heard myself called anything but "girl" and "kid" (especially from my mother), my immediate reaction was Woman? Oh, okay. That's what I am now.

It could be worse. Your hairline could have started receding in your early 20s, like my older brothers. (Thanks, Dad!)

One of my friends started getting grey hairs in the 7th grade. But hey, you can just dye over it. Hair dye can be your best friend at times.

I am 55 and have no grey's yet, but my husband is 31 and he has quite a few.

I think his dad greyed early also. And, so far getting older is pretty cool and does have it's perks. I have gotten comfortable with my age and it also helps to come from a culture that celebrates and respects age and the wisdom that usually comes with it, rather than denegrating it.

I'm 30 and have had grays for at least 4 or 5 years now...

I jokingly complain about them but I love my gray hairs. Add personality IMO.

(and my stylist calls them "maturity streaks" -- I love it )

and fwiw, my mom is 100% silver now... started getting grays in her mid-20s... she has THE most gorgeous hair. gets compliments on it all the time. So.. it's not entirely a bad thing

I have a cousin who was down to that "fringe" by the time he was 25. Poor *******. His younger brother neurotically checks his hairline every day in the mirror.

i've been finding the odd one for oh 2 or 3 years now. i'm 25

i've started dying my hair more regularly, not for my sake but for my mother's. she feels old as is, if she saw a grey hair on me she'd flip out

but.. is it grey or is it white? i read somewhere that white hairs are sometimes a sign of poor circulation

I'm singin' here to get rid of fear
Hope it disappears right here with the rain

They say the best way to stay young is to marry someone younger... cograts on finding the love of your life and not letting anything as inconsequential as age difference get in the way!!

Myself, I'm carefully keeping all the greys covered with whatever shocking color suits me for the week... this week its purple...

I'm not old enough to accept that "distinguished grey" look just yet...

I had a few grays last year afaik I have none now unless my stylist is hiding them from me. I expect to begin balding soon though, I am 27 in two months my dad was pretty far along at that age. My hair is pretty short and the current plan is to go shorter and shorter as I get balder and balder.

My father started going bald when he was 19. He still has a patch of hair on his head, but its shaved off, always.

Well, I tried to show it to my husband and we couldn't find it. So it could just be my paranoia talking. It was only a tiny little bit at the roots - I have hair almost to my waist.

I think I'll dye it anyway, just for fun. Unfortunately I have a conservative lawyer boss, so it will most likely be black, rather then blue.

And I think it's safe to say that the majority of VB'ers (myself included) think that your hair is awesome.

I second aliciam712's motion that we can all be old together.

Awww shucks, thank you ~Brandon!

I will third aliciam712's motion, but expand on it a bit with my preference that we all just "be" together.

I agree, Carnelian, you have awesome hair!

I cover my grey now but I got my first when I was 26, it took 15 years after that before I felt I had to color it.
