Probably won't get too many votes for McDonald's here.

considering McD's fries contain beef, we don't have Jack in the Box up here, and Wendy's fries taste wierd, i'd say Burger King but only cause it's the least nasty. i still wouldn't go out and get some cause Burger King is disgusting and i don't even know if their fries are veg*n.

so hmm i guess i'm voting for hidden option #7 .. New York Fries.

that or the ones i make at home

Mcdonalds fries are disgusting. I didn't think it would get many votes, either. But I had to make it an option, for those wierd people who actually like them

i'd actually be quite surprised if BK's were vegan. i heard their veggieburgers were good but i never bothered to try them. i used to like their poutine before i went veg but the burgers were gross.

oh, for you non-canadians poutine is fries covered in cheese and gravy. it's like a heart attack in a bowl.

By the way - I think the purpose of the poll was supposed to be which fast food fries you like best so please only choose homemade if you don't eat fries anywhere else.

BK's are not. They are made with a poultry amino acid.

Well, since the question is fast food, I would have to go with Wendys because they seem to be the only ones left that are actually fried spuds. Taco John's Ole's are also edible but arguing over which fast food place makes the "best" fries is rather missing the point. Better crap is still crap. If they sit for more than 30 seconds (one minute if the place is packed and the server REALLY busy) from fryer to table there is no point in judging the quality.

If I end up eating spuds on the road I prefer to go to a diner where I can see them drop the fries or throw the hash browns on the grill.

OK Kreeli -- I need a potato chip (thin-sliced crispy-fried potato) recipe. Have on on ur web site? If not, I've got the idea that the basics must be -- slice thin, blanch for 5 sec in boiling water, deep fry. But how do those "Cape Cod Kettle-Cooked" potato chips taste so much better than Wise or Lays? They are crisper. Do you have to choose the correct oil, and maintain it at a precise temp? I'm pretty sure Wise and all the main commercial brands are "ambulatory cooked" -- they don't stop the assembly line long enough to cook them --- they are cooked while on the move.

By the way, while I eat small amounts of tatochips occ, I don't think it's a good idea to include fried foods as a substantial part of one's diet.

no, soilman, i've never actually tried to make my own potato chips (or "crisps" as they call them in the UK and Oz, and probably New Zealand too, now that i think about it). it seems so much more convenient to buy them, even if the cost is awfully inflated for the better brands.

i know the kind i like, Miss Vicky's, are kettle cooked in peanut oil. they seem crisper than the major brands; probably the same kind you are referring to.

making potato chips doesn't seem like it would be a hard thing to do, but i'm not overly keen on deep frying foods. it's hot and messy and i always feel like i need a shower afterwards.

i only ever make "oven fries" at home; i like the texture and that you can use as little or as much oil as you see fit.

What is "Oz."?

One reason I'm interested is, unlike french-fried (deep-fried but thicker slices), or what I call "oven crisps," (french-fry sized slices, brushed with oil, and baked till gold), "crisps" as you must call them, and which is actually the term I think i might prefer, keep a long, long time without refrigeration. Even longer than french-fries, with refrigeration. Even if they aren't packed in those air-tight bags. Because by time you finish with'em, there is not much moisture left. This of course has advantages.

"oz" is australia.

and yes, chips/crisps do have a long shelf life. but they aren't really all that good after the first day or so, in my opinion.

Isn't Canada part of the BC, British Commonwealth, and not part of the UK, the United Kingdom, which is only England, Scotland, and part of Ireland? I keep frog-edding.
