INTJ, I became vegetarian initially because I think of eating dead animal flesh as repulsive. Now I also think it is immoral and that as the dominant species on this planet we have a responsibility to take care of and preserve our world and all of the living things in it.

INFJ - I went vegan for ethical reasons.

Whew, alot of questions. I am so all over the place I think this one and most others get me quite wrong, haha. They're always so limiting.

Personality Type

There's this site which tells you which of 16 personality types you fit into (like INFJ, ENFP etc.), using Myerr's and Brigg's psychological theory. There's 4 big groups - Diplomats and 3 others - and I found it interesting that any vegan I know taking it came out as one of the Diplomats... Obviously it's just a baseline for your personality but I thought it would be cool to see if we all fall under the same category because we're all altruistic activists in a sense! Let me know what you get if you take it smile emoticon I got Protagonist!

Here's what the 4 groups are

I became vegan as soon as I found out I didn't need animal products to survive, common sense really

So many INFJs here! I went from being an INFJ last year to an INFP yesterday (also part of that special 1% like INFJs). I went vegan because I finally came to the realization that all animals are equal, after watching that video about "saddest slaughterhouse footage, no slaughter no blood" or whatever it was called, and I had to stop watching so I paused it and when I paused, the cow resembled my dog. It was absolutely so sad and I knew I had to help make a difference even if that difference is on a small personal scale, and since then I've become more vocal about it. Still introverted, but definitely strongly opinionated...

IMO, that sixteen personalities stuff is this decade's horoscope fad.

You have to pay to get the supposedly more "accurate" results to boot!

The machine says I'm a rational INTJ, like Jung himself.

I share these traits in common with Michelle Obama, Gen. Colin Powell, Hillary Clinton, Thomas Jefferson, John Kennedy, Isaac Newton, Gandalf the Grey, Professor Moiarty, and Ensign Ro Laren from Star Trek.

It says I'd make a good natural scientist or educator, software engineer, or librarian.

My results:

E(11%) N(62%) F(50%) and P(89%)

The math is a bit wonky. But oh well.

And I went vegetsrian because kf dissection and then it became more of a belief against animal cruelty.

We *would* all be INFJs...(I'm one too)

Veggie for ethical reasons, but I also can't really handle taste/texture...probably some psychological thing. (Ew, I'm eating something that used to walk around?)

The environmental, social and health reasons are a plus though!

I get INFP on Humanmetrics, but also get ISFP on others. Both are Fi dominant, I've actually seen theories that Fi types are more likely to be vegetarian because of internally based rational ethics.

I have often seen people say IXFP or INFJ are most likely to be vegan.

But honestly I think NT become veg for rational reasons, NF for ethical, SP for functional or ethical reasons, SJ more affected by surrounding community - which explains veg*ns being more numerous in the state of California.

I think people who easily become vegan over night and never struggle with cravings are more likely NF, or NT, while SP might need more tasty vegan food crutches and SJ more community support.

I usually call myself an ISFP. I'm very close on N/S.

I have the Keirsey book and in the test in it, I came out INFJ/INFP (the J and P were equal).

According to my book, the idealists are the rarest type and yet we are the most common here on veggieboards! But the guardians, who make up a large percentage of the general population, are very rare here. That's not surprising though because guardians yearn for belonging and are less likely than the other groups to do something that will make them look "different" in the eyes of society (also from the book).

I have studied this stuff, and I actually met David Kersey's
son, and I'm fairly certain I'm an Artisan - it's why I'm less idealistic than a lot of Idealist vegans and more focused on practical outcomes, or results. Rather than a philosophical purist, which I think is more common in INFP, as an ISFP I'm more interested in the physical outcome of more people eating less animal products.

I am also not as diplomatic. I think a lot of Idealist vegans are the ones who believe in leading more tolerantly by example, typical of diplomatic intelligence, while the tactical intelligence and need to make an impact of the Artisan temperament may make them more argumentative or volatile...or simply inclined to make vegan products with their own two hands.

I do agree SJ types likely struggle the most without community support. ISXJ are more introverted and self sufficient but I think with more "normative" vegetarian culture, more SJs feel comfortable with joining up - thus my earlier comment about California, and possibly places like Oregon, Washington and Colorado. Definitely California though - we have at least 3 vegan chain restaurants.

Extravert(22%) iNtuitive(6%) Feeling(75%) Judging(1%)
You have slight preference of Extraversion over Introversion (22%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (6%)
You have distinct preference of Feeling over Thinking (75%)
You have marginal or no preference of Judging over Perceiving (1%)

I tested decisively as I and N, but just slightly as a T and J.

Although, I don't think the breakdown of personalities on Veggieboards would be the same as the general vegan population. I would think some types of people would be more inclined to use an internet forum.

I originally became interested in plant based diets for health reasons, but eventually went vegan for environmental and ethical reasons. Ultimately, I had no good justifications for eating animal products. Watching documentaries like Earthlings and Cowspiracy played a significant role in influencing me to go vegan.
