Are we doing Secret Santa this year? I haven't seen anything posted about it, and with a month and three weeks (give or take) until Christmas, we ought to sort it out so people with international gifts can send them out on time!

(there were no reindeer)

Someone makes up a big list of all participants names/addresses [suddenly I suspect I've just volunteered for this task...which I'm game for if no one else is!], assigns people to people, you buy a gift under $10 (or make a homemade one!) and send it to your secret santa, and someone sends you a gift. You don't know who your SS is until you open your gift!

We have a Secret Santa anon. login so you can communicate with the person who you're giving a gift to without them knowing who you are, so you can ask what they like or ask for ideas, things like that!

Shall we just take charge and declare ourselves and then??

I feel like there needs to be some democracy involved in this... but if no one objects... lets grab the sled and run with it!!!

Perhaps a mod might sticky this thread if one should run across it?

This is in the planning stages. We'll start an official thread within the next week or so. If you want to continue discussing how it's done that's fine but don't use this thread to say you're "in." Thanks.

It sounds like Michael and other people are planning it? hey, whatever man, as long as it gets organized!

krista, how do you know who your giftee is? or do you just have a gift that is pretty much suitable for anyone?

As for me, I'm in between "count me in! I want presents!" and "I have no money. I wonder if my potential giftee would like a nice collage of Cape Girardeau brochures or a stuffed toy made from fabric scraps or perhaps I could make something from papier-mache..."

The "I want presents!" part will probably win over, though. I can be AWFULLY creative when it comes to making things. I spent less than three dollars on my younger sister's sixteenth birthday gift and it's fantastic (if I do say so myself)

So I suppose the actual question and point is: is there a price range that we're supposed to stay within? what might it be?

I made a gift that anyone would enjoy And if we didn't do secret santas, I have enough of your addresses to pick a name off the list

Homemade gifts are acceptable! The price limit was $10 last year, I expect that won't change.

just to warn ya that a few people's gifts never showed up last year (and the year before). some of the participants were newbies that nobody really knew and ended up not coming back after etc. plus snailmail just sucks. so just so nobody's too disappointed try to keep in mind it's for fun and getting to know each other and not necessarily for the gifts.

i organized last year but i'm quite happy to pass the torch on to someone else this year. it was kinda aggravating especially when i couldn't get hold of some people to get addresses or to find out why they hadn't send their gift etc.

I'm singin' here to get rid of fear
Hope it disappears right here with the rain
But I know life is pain, not like a fairytale
Meaningless to pray, so just goin' on my way

There's a Secret Santa login that everyone has access to so they can log in and ask their person questions without the person knowing who it is.

I so sucked at SS last year. My gift came when I was out of town for an extended period and got returned to my SS. Then I got sick and never got my person a gift and got it out. It's a great idea.

I can't believe you admit that!

I never got my gift from last year, but I'm still game. I just want to get some more of Kreeli's cookies.
