I'm hoping beyond hope that I get a job with actual benefits and if I do, a physical is high on the list. A full on head-to-toe phyisical. I haven't had anything of the sort since high school - although I had an an extensive series of blood tests and similar when I was going into cancer treatment.

What should I be expecting? What should I be ready to do/say? Should I get in shape before the physical???

The last physical I got, I got my prostate checked by the P.A. who happened to be female. Well, when the examiner is of a different sex than the examined, it's policy to have another person present as a witness, just in case the patient sues for sexual harrassment, I suppose. Well, the witness was female, too. I know they were both as embarrassed as I, but I couldn't help feeling like I was in some kind of SciFi future where women have taken over and get to humiliate men for sport.

Perhaps that irrational fear is what kept me from asking the P.A. "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like that?"

Rev - You should have said, "Know what the worst part of this is? I know you won't call me tomorrow."

I had a physical when I recently got hired into my first post-college / salaried / benefits job. It was mostly questions about health history, diet, exercise, etc. They took my blood pressure, looked in my throat and ears, and manhandled my manhandle.

Yes, you should get in shape. No, not for the physical, but for general health. It's not like you can whip yourself into shape in a week, anyway, but they're not going to make some sort of judgement call on you as a human being if you are out of shape!
