I was sending some email to a internet-pal of mine today and we started talking about how we have been chatting/emailing for nearly 10 years now (January of '95). We have been through moves to multiple cities, job changes, college graduations, boyfriend changes, cancer scares, 9/11, all the stuff of life. It suddenly struck me as funny that I know so much about this person I've never met. Cool, though.

Any other long-term chatters out there?

The ones I pity are the ones who never stick out their neck for something they believe, never know the taste of moral struggle, and never have the thrill of victory. - Jonathan Kozol

there are a couple of people that i've talked to online for a few years... one of them i'm probably closer with than some friends i have in "real life"! (but then it's a tricky situation with her)

I've known 5-8 people purely through internet gaming for about 4 years now. I actually met one of them in real life, since he's an incoming freshman at my college. Suffice to say, it was an interesting meeting.

my longest one is almost 2 years

it's hard to find someone that won't get boring after a while.

P.S. i think interesting means "seemed a lot cooler online"

Hhhmmm...one person for about 7 years.

Several here on VB I have known for 3-4, going back to the days of VeganOutreach. I know I have known Kreeli and Mikie since sometime in 2000.

Robert would be mine, I'm bad with times but I think it's been about 6 years.

Just think of all those people who said we'd never make it.

I've been chatting to Kurm for more than three years now. I like to yell at him and make up funny kurmy/majakey sketches.. I also like to laugh at him for wearing ugly dresses and bras. He's fun.. I like him.

I think Robert is my longest internet crush.. but I can't remember when I started crushing on him.

I met a person online back in 98. We met in 01 and are still very good friends. We happen to live 1 town over now and still talk on the phone. It was a cool way to meet another female who had the same interests as me. So I'd say 6 years here.

Oh yeah.... my longest internet friendship was about 3 years. It has sort of fizzled though since she got a boyfriend... I guess she has more important things to do now. I actually did meet her, I flew down to Florida and stayed with her for a few days.

My longest would have to be 3 years. There are 2 people that I have known for that long. Sometimes we will fall out of touch for a couple of weeks, but the great thing is that we can always pick right back up!

Nearly 3 years for me. I met one of my best friends on line (on a rat forum). We speak all the time, I've visited her in Scotland, and she and her husband have come down to London to stay with us. It's cool! I guess it helps that we've always always got something to talk about (usually rats!)

My longest internet friendship would be with my friend Alex. I've been chatting with him online for 7 or 8 years. I've met him twice IRL.

My longest internet romance has been with my husband. We talked online and went back and forth seeing each other for 3 1/2 years before we got married.

About ten years, with someone who lives in my same town, but we've only gotten together in person twice! Isn't that nuts? I should hang out with her for real and not just online, but I guess I'm comfortable with the way it is.

I've been talking to a friend of a friend online for about four and a half years. He lives sort of near me (In the same region of the state), but we never met in real life. Then, there's an Aussie I've been talking to online for about, oh, two and a half or three years.

About 8 years. Though I don't email him much anymore. I think it's been about a year. I do send Xmas cards every year though.

My longest net friendships have been 6 years. I met some friends via i-village for an august mommy group. (My son will be 6 in August).

My husband and I started talking online just a smidge over a year ago.

Rincaro! Do you still post on ivillage? I've been posting there for five years, though less and less recently.

I've known one online friend/penpal over 7 years. We're pretty close, yet I've never heard her voice.
