I confess - I am inept when it comes to makeup. I can figure out foundation and powder. I recently mastered blush when I realized that, because of my ever cute baby freckles, I can only apply blush along the top apples of my cheeks.

However, lipstick and eye makeup are completely lost on me. I am pale, w/ red blotchy skin. I have strawberry blond brownish hair. Big green eyes. When I've had my makeup done professionally (all of 2 times), I felt like a 50 cent hooker. When I see other people w/ eye makeup on (liner, etc), they don't look like hookers (most of the time), but I always feel like I do.

I've included a photo of said hooker makeup. It didn't come out well, b/c my camera sucks the big one.

Any tips? I want to wear makeup sometimes. I used to before, but I dressed like a hooker, so the makeup didn't bother me back then....

Oh, my. Is that blue eyeshadow? I think maybe those colors are too cool in tone for you, but I could be wrong.

I just wear neutral colors on my lids - a base color, darker in the crease, light on the lid and brow bone. I wear black liquid eyeliner on top, use black eyeshadow (with an angled brush) as liner on bottom, and soft black mascara. Most magazines (or whatever) say I should use brown, but with white lashes it looks funny.

Because you have dark eyebrows, you could probably get away with a bit more color on your lids. That's all I can think of for now, and I'm certainly no expert.

All I do is apply cover-up to my problem areas, then liquid foundation, then powder. After that I brush on blush.. and instead of eyeshadow I brush a little blush on my eyelids too. I hate real eyeshadow. Then I pencil my brows and use mascara.

I'm not good with makeup but I'm good with hair cutting and shaping. I have ideas for styling your hair differently that I think would frame your face better. It is hard to describe complex shape with language though. But to start, I think your face would be better framed if you got some of that hair that is at the sides of your eyebrows, away from your eyebrows. Also, I don't like the triangle shape of your hair, over your forehead. I'm not sure exactly what I'd want to do your hair. I'd want to play with it for awhile.

I never really like to wear very obvious makeup unless I'm going out or for some sort of special occassion. I usually like to keep things neutral and just enhance my features. My usual routine is just concealer where I need it, a dab of pressed powder, a little blush if I'm feeling pale, brown eyeliner and maybe a lipstick in a shade close to my own own lip color. It's better to only play up one feature, so if you're going to do a dark lipstick, then stay away from dark/obvious eye makeup (that should keep the hooker thing in check!) and stay away from any sort of blue eyeshadow! Not many women can pull that look off too well.

I wish I could help you out. I haven't worn make-up on a regular basis since I was 15. The last time I wore make-up I had a professional makeover with a friend (about a year ago)--where I ended up wearing a similar shade of eyeshadow.

My hair is pretty light, so you can only see about half of my hair in that photo hehe I haven't decided if I want my hair short or long, so I'm letting it grow until I figure out what the devil I want to do with it.

Although, Rene Russo's haircut in The Thomas Crown Affair is looking apppealing, but then I may start dreaming about Pierce's naked buttocks....

I like your hair color. I think you have a very well-formed hairline, and therefore I think I'd want to pull your hair back somewhat so we can see the whole hairline. Attract attention to it. I think I'd want to have it swept back for a certain distance, and then at one point let it suddenly drop straight down. The slight wave-curl is ok; I don't mean absolutely straight. Maybe just in front of your ears, so we can see your ears. I like ears.

I don't think I know what Rene Russo's hair looked like in the Thomas Crown Affair. I'd need a photo.

I think I'd like to do something to make your big green eyes look even bigger. And I wouldn't curve your eyebrows upward. I'd have them be more straight across, to make your farhead appear to cover more space, be bigger. I'm good with shape, but not so good with color.

I think tho that I'd actually want to lighten the color of your forehead, and darken the color of maxillary area. The maxillary area looks large from side to side. It is hard to tell from a front view, but it appears that they may be large in a forward direction too, extending out ahead of your eyes. Darkening them will make them appear to recede.

maybe coloring under your eyes, instead of on and above the lids. Dark color between your eyelids and eyebrows, to make it appear like your eyes are deeper set relative to your forehead, that is, move your forehead forward.

Thanks Krista...can I do your makeup up like a hooker and do some role-playing with you? Hehehehehe...

In all seriousness, I would recommend a lip liner and lip gloss in a neutral shade. Get some practice with that before moving to lipstick.

I think you should stick to natural/autumn-ish colours to go with your skin/hair tones. Any of the shades along the top row here would most likely suit you http://www.revlon.com/product.asp?Pr...8&Mode=catalog

And remember with eyeshadows it's always best to blend shades, rather then leave it as just one, unless you vary the transparency up the eyelid to the brow. Normally if you do a line of the darkest shade of eyeshadow right next to your lashes on the top of your eyelid (over your eyeliner) it will blend your eyeliner well! And also if you do the same, then smudge it with your finger or a cotton bud.

Stick with black eyeliner and mascara aswell, generally eyeliner pencils are easier to apply without messing it up. If you don't want to look too overdone just do a quick flick of mascara on the top eyelid, making sure to coat them all evenly, then just sorta dab the bottom ones.

As for the lipstick, I think that you can get away wearing bright shades like that, having pale skin and strawberry blonde hair, but if you don't feel that comfortable with it then it probably is best if you get a tinted gloss, the only thing is that they need to be applied more often!

Bow chicka bow wow

I had my makeup done once as a teenager. It was hideous on me, too. The makeup itself felt like a mask, and the eye makeup was all blue. Sure, that stuff was in style at that time, but still. Remember I mentioned the white eyelashes? Well, on people with dark lashes, that stuff gave just a hint of color. On me, it was practically neon.

Man I suck at makeup. I went through a real goth-grrl, grunge princess phase when I was 15 that I never grew out of. I still pencil my eyes heavily and use dark colours so I am not the person you want advising you!

I was the only person in the entire world that thought Courtney Love looked cool with her smudged red lipstick...

Hey Krista,

I'm not really all that great with makeup, but I can tell you that one thing that has helped me do a better job with makeup is using that eyeshadow that isn't powder, but is instead sort of a cream. If I were you, I would stick with either dramatic lips or dramatic eyes- because both, I think, could be kind of overwhelming with your complexion and coloring. I also have pinkish skin, although my hair isn't red and my eyes are brown, and I find that using more neutral, earthy colors is best on the eyes- browns and golds, and even a little bit of pink, but not orangish pink. I mostly just use a cream shimmery gold eye makeup, a little bit of eyeliner, and some lip gloss, though...I'm certainly no make up wiz! Lol.

lovenlight,

Linz

I agree with what everyone else said, that neutral eyeshadow is best, maybe like a light brown color. I'd skip the eyeliner; it's a hassle and doesn't look natural on most people. For mascara, in order to not look overwhelming or unnatural, I always pull the wand out, wipe it off with toilet paper or paper towels, and then apply it as to not get too much on my lashes. It works very well!

I use browns. Actually I use a pale pink and brown when I do eyeshadow. Color is nice, but I don't think most folks look good in brights. I use the pale pink instead of a taupe to make my eyes look a little brighter. You might try something like that.

I use colours, but really pale ones. Like really pale sky blue, lavender, pink etc. But we have completely different colouring so I don't know what to say!

I NEVER use foundation, just cover stick and some powder. And tinted lip glosses.
