I've always found it odd how people reminesce about old members on here. It also sounds slightly pathetic and seemingly stuck in the past rather than looking at the future and the here and now.

Why do people leave, take hiatuses and other things? I took a lengthy hiatus myself and came back mostly to just bs and have fun after battling it out the prior time.

I left because I was banned. I came back when it was lifted two minutes later.

I think most of them leave because there has never been a proper perv thread.

I got deployed, then I came back.

Things happen. Sometimes it just gets boring. Not that I don't love browsing the posts from all you crazy people, but I don't know any of you personally. So if things get hectic, VB is the first thing to go.

I think people leave because they typically get busy with their lives outside of VB. Sometimes they don't like a few things that were said, a certain group of people may attack them and they don't feel wanted here (I can think of a few members who left for this reason), they started eating meat again, or they passed away.

I signed up, posted a bit, and left. I didn't stop posting because I didn't like this place, I just forgot I had signed up. When I got very serious about vegetarianism again, I came back. Mid 2006-ish.

For me, life gets in the way and I'll take unscheduled hiatuses.

And I'm older-school than Danakscully.

I'll only leave this site when it turns into a bunch of "herp derp", which happened to my previous forum.

Well, never left per say but, I have gotten so busy in life that I have not posted for a while. I also have not had a computer at certain points in time.

Michael is a fictional character. VB is really owned by a Fortune 500 investment firm, as a tax write-off.

When I first arrived, I was shy and only showed up once every few days, and I did go to a camp for a week.
Those are the closest things I've come to leaving.

After he changed his name into Guy, he no longer felt comfortable using his old Michael account.

I'm always amused by message board politics, it's very high school. I can't think of a single board I've ever posted on where people didn't get into cat fights and then storm off in a huff. I don't take things on the internet that seriously so it just makes me giggle

hey there,

hippie thursday

I left and had my account deleted cause I was angry, extremely angry about a certain situation that occured.... there were some aspects of VB that I missed some not so much as I was attacked for certain aspects and opinions I have....and just for who I am... I have made some really good friends here and decided to come back and just be and breathe....not take things soooo seriously....I missed my VB pals of course but what I really miss is my over 8,000 posts I had when I left.

Certain politics I think are silly, but some I can understand. When people feel the environment is too negative or feel personally attacked, I can understand them getting upset. I've seen a lot of scary posts here that could easily really offend and hurt someone, even those with thick skins, if they have something personal to do with the conversations, and when conversations and debates start to leak into other boards on the site besides just the compost heap or whatever specific board it is.

However, some things I just don't understand. I think it's absurd to leave or throw a fit about some silly politics thing, getting upset by trolls, claiming there's a conspiracy involving getting traffic to other sites of the owner, etc. Stuff like that that's just a petty, impersonal gripe don't really make sense to me as reasons to leave.

I can understand people leaving after personal attacks, I don't think it's really high school-ish. I'm one of those people that see online friends as just as good or better than real friends, I have online friends I consider family, too, so I do take some things seriously, because I think if I were stabbed in the back, alienated, or otherwise upset by my friends, I'd leave, too, so I definitely understand the people that have left here because of a negative environment.

Were you vegetari-Jenn? I read a lot of older VB threads and I always see her posts and they remind me of yours! The voice seems the same, they're written in the same positive and friendly way.
