Steve Jobs, the demanding visionary who understood before anyone else how deeply we would live our lives through our devices, has died at the age of 56, only weeks after resigning as chief executive of computer giant Apple Inc. for health reasons.

Quite sad.

He would have died six months ago if it wasn't for the liver transplant he paid for out of pocket.

I knew he was ill. I wonder how many people die each year from lack of health insurance?

Very sad, but I think he probably lived his relatively short life more fully than most people.

$$$ You can bet your life on that.

Very sad. I saw this quote from him on a website:

"Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."

I thought it was inspirational.

I'd been expecting to hear that any day now as I saw a picture of him a few weeks ago and he looked very frail. He made a techie contribution to this world that helped change it forever. He certainly left his mark on my life and that of my friends and some of my family.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone online mentioned that TMZ was posting tasteless photos of Jobs who was "obviously dying of cancer." I didn't even know he was sick until then, this was about 3 weeks ago. So very sad

Steve Jobs is not with us anymore. Very sad. His last gifts for us are iPhone 4S and iPad 2. People say iPhone 4S stands for "iPhone For Steve". Apple fans should buy this to remember him. I'm wondering what's his diet exactly. Several sources say he's pescetarian, vegan or fruitarian

I don't think we should buy an iPhone for him :/

This is sad. He seemed to be rich and privileged without being an asshat, which is rare.

I guess he didn't eat an Apple a day.

Wow. I knew about the transplant but I had no idea he paid for it himself.

Well, when you sell that many iPads you can afford experimental treatment like that. I believe he had to go overseas to have the procedure done, it would not of happened if he was not Steve Jobs is what I was getting at.

*shrugs* I just remember we talked about it in my Cancer Biology class semester. I really can't stand Mac lovers who elevate the man to God status. It's very annoying.

Post script: It is very sad and very unfortunate when a devastating disease like that takes anyone's life at such a premature age.
RIP anyone whose life has been painfully ripped away from them by cancer.

Rich yes, but priveleged? He was adopted and his adoptive parents were regular working-class people and he dropped out of college because his parents could barely afford the tuition. He became rich because of the type of person he was, not because he had everything handed to him.

Um, you don't think being one of the world's richest people made him privileged? :/

I understood your use of the word privileged as referring to being wealthy due to an unfair advantage. If that was not your intent, then my mistake.
