Monday, 21st of June is the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Let's all hail the arrival of summer at last!

Ahhh, the lazy, hazy days of summer, spending one's days outside, soaking up the sun, sipping a cold drink, having a good read...

barbecues, picnics, and dancing in the rain...

the sweet smell of flowers blooming in profusion everywhere, with the buzzing of bees rising aloft over the technicolor petals..

double-dipped ice cream cones, the splash of a perfect dive into a swimming pool, a pond, a lake, a river, or an ocean...the laughter of children at play, unburdened by the requirements of a stuffy classroom, if only for a couple of months...no more pencils, no more books, no more teachers' dirty looks...

...I prefer the winter season myself.

Whaaaa!!!! It is 55 degrees (12 C) and drizzle here. We have had just one day over 80 degrees so far this year. Spring just completely passed us by. We're hoping Summer arrives tomorrow on schedule, but I'm not counting on it.

Still, Summer solstice rocks, it's going to be light out till 10pm and beyond tonight.

Winter Solstice, here. Hail the return of the sun! Now the sun creeps South and the days become longer and warmer.

I got up early this morning and went down to the beach to watch the sun rise, in it's most Northerly position. It was too cloudy for that, but I did take some fabulous photos of water birds and rust.

Love the post? Why not buy the T-shirt!

I love summer time! Spending time outside, swimming in the lake, camping, lying in the grass. Can it get any better?

Who needs sleep when we've got love?
Who needs keys when we've got clubs?
Who needs please when we've got guns?
Who needs peace when we've gone above?

Yay for summer! Though in all honesty it has been summer here in central Florida for a month already!! The downturn of passing the solstice is the days start get shorter....

Thank you for reminding me Amy... I now really should be going to sleep as I do kinda want to be awake in 4 hours time to catch the sunrise...

We've had summer for the last month at least - it's been a monster spring. Today it was near 100F.

Summer is awesome!

This year, it's right on schedule.

Last year we didn't get consistently warm weather until mid-July.

Happy Solstice, everyone. Now, if summer weather would arrive here (Western Washington), too, it'd be great.

It's sunny here today. I just ate my breakfast on my garden swing listening to music. I'm going to do a vegan BBQ this summer.

Is that why you're cranky?

Ah, ok.

Actually you were right... I don't tend to get to sleep before 4 or 5am usually... which was okish when I was at uni because most of my lectures were in the afternoon (I only had a 9am lecture on Tuesdays ) but now that I'm back home for the summer, when I've got to feed the dogs in the morning I have to be up at 7:30am, and when my mother feeds the dogs, she rings me at 9am from work (and if I don't speak to her then, then there's hell to pay when she gets back )

Hence why I'm now cranky all the time (I'm also a but that's another story... )

I just went outside and saw a tiny patch of blue in the clouds. I think we're almost there. (Portland, OR)

Happy belated birthday, KK! It was our wedding anniversary yesterday, so we had double cause to celebrate too (we were pretty um, low-key though )

Weather here is fantastic. Good weather and two year olds = more fun than should be legal. Already been swimming, "painting" with water outside, picnic in the park....and it's only Tuesday!

You did? I saw blue sky today, blinked, and it was gone.

Yay! Now that means the days are getting shorter again. I know I'm in the minority, but I love long cozy winter nights.

I was surprised at the amount of summer-lover's day going "yay" at Midsummer's Day, considering it is the signal that winter will once again approach. I do love winter, but a cold Mid-Winter's Day made me quite glad that the days are getting longer and warmer. Yay surf weather on the way!

Aw thanks Jen and Purp! And happy anniversary

The weather here is now unbearably hot. High 90s and typical east coast humidity
