Winter in the northern hemisphere officially arrives on 21st December 2009. It is the day with the least amount of daylight. After that, the days will begin to get longer, although for those of you living in really cold climates, you probably won't notice for a long while.

Happy Winter Solstice to everyone! *throws snowballs at the crowd*

WonderRandy 12-20-2009 05:11 PM

My Wiccan friend is leading a big ceremonial ritual this evening, involving walking a spiral or something... Solstices are cool.

WonderRandy 12-20-2009 05:11 PM

Another friend is hosting a huge Saturnalia tonight, with a great bonfire, and masked costumes.

Annia 12-20-2009 05:19 PM

Yay!!!

yally 12-20-2009 05:20 PM

Amy SF 12-20-2009 05:21 PM

No, no, two minds but of a single thought.

Yes, Happy Winter to you! I'll try to remember to think of you poor things when I'm down on the beach in my swimming cozzie later on today, getting sand in places it's not supposed to be.

WonderRandy 12-20-2009 05:42 PM

yeah, I think I'm gonna go down to the beach and watch for whales... happy solstice everyone!

Annia 12-20-2009 05:50 PM

Sucks for them. Sure it's summer for them now, but it's all turning around, we'll be getting the long days and sunshine soon and they'll all be stuck in the dark getting cold and depressed.

I mean...

Happy Solstice!

Everyone!

LOL!

I actually prefer winter to summer though. I'll take the bruises from slipping on ice and the self-inflicted cold fingers because I haven't got the dexterity to smoke while wearing gloves over the heat and the wasps, THE WASPS!, anyday

I'll take the heat and even the wasps.

GingerFoxx 12-21-2009 09:04 AM

It's frigid and windy in NH today. I plan to attend a couple yoga classes after work (a hot one followed by a restorative one) then go home and light some candles to welcome back the sunshine... whenever we actually see it again...

It's strange, I never minded the heat when I was in Africa but in the UK I can't stand it. I think it's the humidity more than anything...

I will always take being cold over been hot. If you're cold then you can just put more clothes on or shove the heating on, but when it's hot you don't have many options apart from going swimming and the only pool around here is an indoor heated one so doesn't make any sense (remember in the UK, air-conditioned houses are extremely rare)

SuicideBlonde 12-21-2009 03:41 PM

Happy Solstice!

Teresa 12-21-2009 05:41 PM

I love the shortest day of the year. I love winter. The only reason I love the longest day of the year is because the days start getting shorter again.

Yeh, where I live in Aus it's a very similar climate to LA. That's one of the reasons I felt at home in LalaLand. I could NEVER live in NY for that reason. Brrrr!

Not exactly.LOL. The Aussie winter is more like British Spring. But whatever, my comment was just meant to be a bit of lighthearted teasing, it wasn't done to provoke a "sucks to be you" mentality.
