When a puppy is bought from a pet store, the buyer is contributing to a heartless underground industry which forces dogs to spend their lives in cages constantly breeding in order to meet consumer demand for puppies. The miserable conditions in which these dogs are forced to live are horrific and unsanitary with diseases running rampant. Mothers are bred continuously throughout their short lives and then discarded once their bodies can no longer reproduce--they are either abandoned at shelters, euthanized, killed by mill owners, or sold to laboratories. Millions of shelter dogs are euthanized in Canada every year because there are not enough homes for them.
